About The Position

BHE GT&S has an exciting career opportunity as a Compressor Station Operator Sr. at our Borger Station in Ithaca, NY. This position involves operating internal combustion engines, turbine engines, and related equipment and facilities used to pump and compress natural gas. The operator may report or direct the reporting of pressures and operating conditions to the Gas Dispatcher and keep records or reports. Responsibilities include changing pressures and routing gas as directed, operating all secondary equipment such as water pumps, generators, motors, and heating boilers, and making minor repairs to engines and equipment. The operator will assist in major overhauls as required and keep tools and equipment in safe and proper working condition. Additional duties may include operating and maintaining boilers, performing incidental duties, and preparing records and reports as required.

Requirements

• Six months documented mechanical experience in any combination of industrial equipment, compressors, pumps, electrical motors, controls circuitry, engines, and/or natural gas reciprocating/combustion/turbine engines.
• Related natural gas industry experience or related military experience.
• High School Diploma or GED required.
• Documented computer skills.
• Must possess and maintain a valid driver's license.
• Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds.
• Ability to climb ladders and work from elevated work surfaces.
• Ability to crawl, stoop, and work in limited spaces, on scaffolding and in awkward positions.
• Ability to follow mandatory safety rules and standard operating procedures and use personal protective equipment.
• Ability to analyze problems, collect accurate data, and draw valid conclusions.
• Ability to work independently or as a crew member.

• Related natural gas industry experience.
• Hands-on natural gas compressor station experience.

Responsibilities

• Operate internal combustion engines, turbine engines, and related equipment and facilities used to pump and compress natural gas.
• Report or direct the reporting of pressures and operating conditions to Gas Dispatcher.
• Change pressures and route gas as directed.
• Operate all secondary equipment such as water pumps, generators, motors, and heating boilers.
• Make minor repairs to engines and equipment, assist in major overhauls as required.
• Keep tools and equipment in safe and proper working condition.
• May operate and maintain boilers, performing incidental duties such as maintaining correct water level and checking safety valves.
• Direct compressor station operators or other assigned employees in the performance of assigned duties.
• Perform various maintenance duties such as painting, cleaning, polishing, and caring for grounds.
• Prepare records and reports as required.
