About The Position

The Compressor Mechanic is responsible for diagnosing, repairing, adjusting, and overhauling mechanical equipment used in oil and gas production, including engines, compressors, pumping units, vehicles, and related field equipment. This position conducts inspections, performs routine and preventive maintenance, troubleshoots mechanical and hydraulic issues using diagnostic tools, and ensures all equipment operates safely and efficiently in compliance with manufacturer specifications. The role requires reading and interpreting technical manuals and drawings, maintaining detailed service records, traveling to field locations, and safely operating company vehicles while adhering to all required safety protocols and training.

Requirements

  • Knowledge of engines, compressors, pumping units, and mechanical equipment used in oil & gas operations
  • Understanding of diagnostic procedures, manufacturer specifications, and preventive maintenance practices
  • Skill in using engine diagnostic tools, calibration devices, micrometers, gauges, and hand tools
  • Ability to diagnose mechanical, hydraulic, and pneumatic malfunctions accurately
  • Skill in dismantling, repairing, reassembling, and aligning heavy equipment and component systems
  • Ability to read and interpret technical manuals, blueprints, and equipment drawings
  • Proficiency in operating and inspecting heavy machinery to identify defects
  • Ability to perform routine maintenance, lubrication, cleaning, and part replacement
  • Strong mechanical aptitude and troubleshooting abilities
  • Physical ability to lift, climb, kneel, and work in field environments
  • Effective communication skills for following instructions and documenting work
  • Strong time-management and organizational skills for maintaining service records
  • Ability to adhere to safety protocols, including H2S, CPR, and other required training
  • Capability to travel to field locations and safely operate company vehicles
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team while maintaining high work quality
  • High school diploma or equivalent (GED).
  • Must meet Driver Acceptability Profile requirements (driving position).

Nice To Haves

  • 6+ months of experience in oilfield operations preferred.
  • An equivalent combination of education and experience is also acceptable.

Responsibilities

  • Test mechanical products and equipment after repair or assembly to ensure proper performance and compliance with manufacturers' specifications
  • Repair and replace damaged or worn parts
  • Operate and inspect machines or heavy equipment to diagnose defects
  • Diagnose faults or malfunctions to determine required repairs, using engine diagnostic equipment such as computerized test equipment and calibration devices
  • Dismantle and reassemble heavy equipment using hoists and hand tools
  • Clean, lubricate, and perform other routine maintenance work on equipment and vehicles
  • Examine parts for damage or excessive wear, using micrometers and gauges
  • Schedule maintenance for industrial machines and equipment, and keep equipment service records
  • Read and understand operating manuals, blueprints, and technical drawings
  • Overhaul and test machines or equipment to ensure operating efficiency
  • Assemble gear systems, and align frames and gears
  • Fit bearings to adjust, repair, or overhaul mobile mechanical, hydraulic, and pneumatic equipment
  • Clean parts by spraying them with grease solvent or immersing them in tanks of solvent
  • Adjust and maintain industrial machinery, using control and regulating devices
  • Break apart and assemble pipe fittings, separator valves and cylinder heads on engines
  • Hand start pumping unit engines, raise and lower sucker rod strings on pumping units
  • Service engines, compressors, pumping units, separators, injection pumps, circulating pumps and other various equipment used in the oil field
  • Requires travel to field locations by safely operating company vehicles
  • Must be able to complete, understand and apply all safety training for required job.
