The Compression Engineer will be technical lead for all natural gas compression in our South Texas Eagle Ford Assets. This position will support horsepower that is primarily in Gas Lift service but does include some sales boost and vapor recovery as well. The primary focus will be on ensuring high mechanical availability, optimizing system throughput, and managing the lifecycle of our compression fleet through strategic vendor partnerships and rigorous performance analysis.

Requirements

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical or Petroleum Engineering.
  • Experience: 5+ years of experience in upstream/midstream oil and gas, specifically focusing on reciprocating and centrifugal compression.
  • Technical Skills: Proficiency in compression modeling software (e.g., Ariel Performance Software, Windrock, or similar) and a strong understanding of gas lift and gathering systems.

Responsibilities

  • Fleet Management & Optimization: Oversee the lifecycle of the compression fleet. Analyze system requirements to ensure units are appropriately sized for current and forecasted production. Lead re-standardization or re-staging efforts to maximize efficiency. Forecast future compression needs.
  • Performance Monitoring: Implement and monitor Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) for the fleet to aid in driving performance improvements. Use telemetry and field data to identify underperforming units, manage runtime targets, and minimize downtime.
  • Vendor Selection & Management: Evaluate and select third-party compression providers while playing a key role in contractual negotiations. Serve as the primary technical point of contact for service providers to ensure adherence to safety and operational standards.
  • Vendor Contract & Financial Management: Manage the commercial relationship with compression vendors. Oversee contract compliance, review monthly invoicing for accuracy, and lead quarterly performance reviews.
  • Cooler Management: Manage the maintenance and optimization of aerial coolers and heat exchangers. Ensure cleaning schedules and mechanical integrity programs are executed to prevent thermal-related derating.
  • Technical Support: Will closely liaise with Production Operations team and provide troubleshooting expertise to field personnel for complex mechanical issues as well as routine performance issues.
