The position will report directly to the Compounding Production Manager and be part of larger team working with R and D, compounding plants and wire plants to design, fine tune and certify new compounds on cables. Work with the compounding plants supervisors and operators to optimize the processing conditions. In the compounding plant laboratory the responsibilities will include to maintain equipment certifications and calibrations up to date and support/training of lab technicians for any compound quality testing requirements.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in chemical engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Polymer Engineering or related field.
  • 10+ years of professional experience in polymer processing
  • 10+ years of working experience in polymeric compound formulation for the Wire and Cable industry: Polyolefins, CPE, Rubber, XLPE, PVC, LSZH.
  • 5+ years of experience on laboratory development, pilot scale and industrialization of compounds.
  • Working knowledge of Wire and Cable products standards: UL, IEC, ICEA, IEEE.
  • Proficient in the use of laboratory equipment such as Brabender torque-rheometer, two-roll mill, hydraulic presses, mini-extruders.
  • Polymer processing experience to include Banbury mixers, continuous twin-screw mixers, compact processors and co-kneaders for compounding multiple polymer recipes.
  • Knowledge of rheology and polymer processing with polymer compounds.
  • Knowledge of reactive extrusion processes
  • Experience with mechanical testing of polymers
  • Strong work ethic and ability to thrive in a fast-paced R and D environment
  • Need strong organizational, written, and oral communication skills
  • Focus on safety, reliability, efficiency, and teamwork
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office products (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, OneNote, etc.)

Nice To Haves

  • Knowledge of polymeric compounds for Medium Voltage Power Cables is a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Help in the development of polymer recipes such as PVC insulation, PVC jacket, XLPE insulation and jacket compounds.
  • Evaluation of appropriate equipment for production scale-up from lab to factory
  • Collaboration with the R and D team on formulation, rheological, analytical, and mechanical characterization of materials
  • Working with suppliers to evaluate new materials, processes, and equipment
  • Working with procurement and suppliers on equipment specification, installation and troubleshooting
  • Document processing and testing conditions for all experiments and interpret results and prepare technical reports
  • Identify limitations or inefficiencies in the current processes and implement solutions
  • Make project decisions based on technical merit, cost, and schedule metrics
  • Collaborate with other engineers and project managers to meet project goals
  • Root cause analysis of any issue related to cable polymeric compounds
  • Connect with cable production facilities and R&D on the prototype manufacturing and qualification
