About The Position

The Non-Sterile Compounding Pharmacy Technician at Dougherty's Pharmacy plays a crucial role in supporting pharmacological services by compounding medications and overseeing the compounding lab under the direction of the pharmacist. This position emphasizes customer service, teamwork, and adherence to pharmacy standards while managing various pharmacy operations.

Requirements

  • High School diploma or equivalent.
  • Minimum of one (1) year experience working in a non-sterile compounding lab.
  • Some sterile compounding lab experience is a plus.
  • Sterile compounding certification is a plus.
  • National Pharmacy Technician Certification (PTCB) is preferred.
  • Active Texas State Board of Pharmacy Registered Technician.
  • Complete required Pharmacy Continuing Education.
  • Working knowledge of compounding equipment (i.e. ointment mill, scales, electro-mortar).
  • Proficient in the use and operation of computers.
  • Extensive knowledge of brand and generic drug names.
  • Ability to perform basic pharmacy calculations (i.e. dose and formula calculations).
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in a sterile compounding lab.
  • Sterile compounding certification.

Responsibilities

  • Assist Pharmacist to prepare and dispense medication.
  • Perform day-to-day pharmacy procedures including counting, pouring, filling, and dispensing medications.
  • Maintain pharmacy records and type refills and new prescriptions.
  • Compound medications such as capsules, liquids, and topical forms according to doctor's specifications.
  • Set up formulas/drugs according to USP 795 regulations.
  • Maintain records by recording and filing physician's orders and prescriptions.
  • Perform pharmaceutical calculations to prepare formulas and dosing.
  • Greet healthcare providers and patients, answering questions and requests, and referring inquiries to the pharmacist.
  • Fill bottles with prescribed tablets and capsules, and input prescriptions into the computer system.
  • File and call third-party insurance for proper reimbursement and payment.
  • Price compounds and ensure proper reimbursement from third-party insurance.
  • Maintain and order compounding chemicals and supplies.
  • Stay familiar with procedures/products in other departments.
  • Maintain regular, reliable attendance.
  • Perform other work-related duties as assigned.
