About The Position

About the Role The Compost Turner Operator is responsible for operating specialized equipment used in the composting process. This role involves turning and aerating compost windrows to support the breakdown of organic materials into usable soil products. The operator plays a key role in maintaining efficient compost operations while ensuring equipment is operated safely and effectively. This position is primarily outdoors and requires working with organic materials, heavy equipment, and environmental processes related to recycling food and agricultural waste.

Requirements

  • Experience operating heavy equipment such as tractors, loaders, or similar machinery preferred.
  • Ability to work outdoors in various weather conditions.
  • Basic mechanical aptitude for equipment inspections and minor maintenance.
  • Strong attention to safety and detail.
  • Ability to follow directions and work effectively as part of a team.
  • Ability to perform physical tasks such as lifting, bending, and standing for extended periods.
  • High School Diploma or GED required
  • Valid Driver’s License required
  • Minimum of 2 years of heavy equipment operating experience preferred

Nice To Haves

  • Certification in compostaje or manejo de residuos.

Responsibilities

  • Operate a compost turner machine to turn and aerate compost windrows.
  • Monitor compost piles to help maintain proper airflow, temperature, and moisture levels.
  • Assist with moving and organizing compost materials using loaders, tractors, or other equipment when needed.
  • Perform daily equipment inspections and basic preventative maintenance.
  • Maintain the cleanliness and organization of work areas and compost processing sites.
  • Assist with loading finished compost into trucks or designated storage areas.
  • Follow all safety procedures and environmental guidelines while operating equipment.
  • Report any equipment issues, safety concerns, or operational problems to supervisors.
