About The Position

Lockheed Martin is seeking a Composites Manufacturing Engineer for a position at the Mechanical Manufacturing Center (MMC), located on the Waterton Campus in Littleton, Colorado. The MMC Manufacturing Engineering team supports a variety of production areas, including additive manufacturing, traditional machining, mechanism assembly, composite fabrication, and structural assembly. The chosen candidate would join our collaborative team, supporting the composites fabrication area and products such as flat, curved, or cylindrical composite laminates and sandwich panels. Scope of responsibilities will include: Providing shop floor support, maintaining manufacturing plans, tooling requirements, engineering change implementation and coordinating changes in the build process for a specific program or production area. Accomplish results by utilizing multi-functional team, including Technicians, Quality Assurance, Manufacturing and Test Engineering, MRP/Parts Production Control, and Planning/Scheduling to meet program needs Providing guidance to engineering regarding design concepts, material selection, and specification requirements to best utilize equipment and manufacturing techniques. Interact across all levels of the organization; efficiently and effectively communicate and implement agreed upon changes; navigate difficult situations and conversations to a productive outcome. Creating procedures and operations for the fabrication and/or rework of hardware. Translate engineering drawings and parts lists into easy-to-follow work instructions for the production floor. Writing production planning, inspecting and assessing defective hardware, and optimizing production flow to meet program deliverables. Interfacing with shop floor personnel to implement process improvements to gain efficiencies and represent manufacturing in peer reviews of engineering drawings to enhance the design for manufacturability. Contact with immediate supervisor or lead, project leaders, and other personnel in the section or group. Delegating to and leading other teammates to reach deliverables successfully.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Aerospace Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Material Sciences or related discipline from an accredited college/university or equivalent experience/combined education.
  • This position requires special access to support the program and requires the selected candidate to be a US Citizen.
  • Previous industry experience with composite manufacturing or design.
  • Modeling/drafting experience.
  • Ability to train and mentor other engineers.
  • Understanding of procedures, work instructions, technical writing or similar with technical publications.
  • Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, bills of material, schematics, and specifications.

Nice To Haves

  • Hands-on experience in hand lay-up, oven or autoclave curing, adhesive bonding, damage surveys, non-destructive inspection techniques, repair techniques, and/or mechanical testing.
  • Experience in designing molds, machining or handling fixturing.
  • Knowledge of material properties, and experience in material selection for composite design.
  • Working knowledge of Fibersim or similar software.
  • Experience with laser projectors, auto-aimed vision, or AI-powered automatic inspection.
  • Experience with high rate production.
  • Experience in leading a small team of engineers.
  • Experience in a dynamic work environment with shifting priorities.
  • Familiarity with Lockheed Martin Space Systems or industry equivalent processes (Manufacturing Work Instructions, Routings, Production Orders, Bill of Materials, Q-Notes, FOE/FOD, etc.).
  • Familiarity with Lockheed Martin Space Systems or industry equivalent tools (ERP/SAP, EPDM, VECAMS, PMP Database, etc.)
