About The Position

Develop and execute detailed laminate schedules for new models to meet ISO/ABYC standards as well as structural and cosmetic expectations. Oversee the creation of fiberglass patterns and laminate documentation for all new models. Research and facilitate testing of new and innovative composite materials. Provide technical support to all phases of fiberglass manufacturing, to ensure the highest quality of boats are produced to meet our customers’ expectations profitably.

Requirements

  • At least 4 years’ experience in a composite manufacturing environment, preferably in construction of production boats.
  • Proficient in the use of computers and company-wide software programs.
  • Preferably proficient in 2D and 3D drawing and CAD software.
  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations.
  • Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals.
  • Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public.
  • Ability to comprehend and apply principles of advanced calculus, modern algebra, and advanced statistical theory.
  • Ability to work with concepts such as limits, rings, quadratic and differential equations, and proofs of theorems.
  • Ability to apply principles of logical or scientific thinking to a wide range of intellectual and practical problems.

Responsibilities

  • Generate preliminary and detailed laminate schedules based on outlined specifications to meet ISO/ABYC and other standards, while ensuring cosmetic and stiffness expectations are met.
  • Overseeing the creation of laminate documentation and build books for new models.
  • Supervise the creation and nesting of fiberglass and core patterns for all new models.
  • Arrange and facilitate Certified Composites Technician (CCT) training for lamination and tooling employees as requested by their supervisors.
  • Write training documentation for new composite processes.
  • Oversee the substitution of composite materials when necessary.
  • Assist with testing and qualifying these replacement materials during raw material shortages.
  • Determine the usability of composite materials if they are out of spec or out of date.
  • Facilitate in-plant and laboratory testing for workability and weatherability of gelcoats and resins.
  • Research and recommend new innovative composite materials and procedures to assist manufacturing in the improvement of first-time yield (FTY).
  • Liaison with manufacturing during prototyping to ensure questions are answered for new laminate schedules and patterns.
  • Oversee and help implement the new process for cold press lamination of hatches.
  • Work with Customer Service to analyze warranty feedback on fiberglass parts and make recommendations to prevent reoccurrences of any problems.
  • Conduct and schedule work so that department schedule and key milestones are met.
  • Participate in resolution of ECN and CAR issues for production.
  • Other duties as assigned.
