About The Position

Applied Composites (AC) is seeking a Composite Technician who will place resin pre-impregnated fabrics and tapes onto layup molds using hands, wrists, and arms to apply pressure and remove air pockets, requiring knowledge of fabric direction and ply orientation. The technician will handle and prepare adhesive, core, and other layup materials, cut vacuum bag materials, and create vacuum bags. They will also prepare parts for transfer to the autoclave department and ensure layups and vacuum bags are prepared according to manufacturing traveler requirements. The ideal candidate learns quickly, works quickly, makes few mistakes, performs high-quality work, collaborates well with others, and is focused on task completion. Requirements

  • High School Diploma/GED or combination of relevant education and work experience may be substituted to meet educational requirements only.
  • 2-5 years of relevant experience
  • Possesses high mechanical aptitude.
  • Attention to detail.
  • Ability to follow instructions explicitly or innovate, depending on situation.
  • Possesses strong problem-solving skills.
  • Ongoing manufacturing support and engineering insight to other support staff.
  • Good communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Possesses knowledge and understanding of continuous improvement environment
  • Ability to write Standard Work Instructions (SWI) for statements of work in manufacturing transitions.
  • Ability to read design specifications and technical drawings.
  • Ability to handle multiple projects and to work alongside peers.
  • Ability to manage time to get work completed on schedule
  • All applicants must be U.S. persons within the meaning of ITAR (U.S. Citizen, U.S. Permanent Resident, Political Asylee, or Refugee).

Responsibilities

  • Read and follow basic instructions and diagrams in English
  • Use basic shop math skills to record information such as freezer out-time, or mixture weights
  • Follow standard shop practices and quality standards in the aerospace industry
  • Prepare molds using shop-approved release agents
  • Layup materials to molds and remove air pockets using approved hands, squeegees, and heat guns.
  • Occasionally mix resins and catalysts as specified
  • Trim laminated fabric using scissors or knives without damaging the layup mold
  • Perform physical and environmental checks and document work for manufacturing travelers
  • Builds semi-complex ply-buildups under minimal supervision, ensuring that the plies are well-compacted
  • Vacuum bag parts applying best practices, ensuring that the vacuum bags do not leak during cure
  • Regular, consistent, and punctual attendance is required. May need to work nights and weekends, variable schedule(s), and additional hours as necessary.
