Composite Operator Gillett, WI Full-Time and On-Site Carfair Composites® is a leader in fiber-reinforced plastic design and composite technologies. As a comprehensive manufacturer of engineered composite products, Carfair Composites supplies quality fiberglass components to the original equipment manufacturers operating in agriculture, automotive, construction, transportation, commercial, food processing, and medical industries. Position Summary: The Composite Operator may be cross trained in Light RTM (Load and Inject), Trim and/or Lamination functions and be utilized, in those functions, throughout the facility, based on customer demand.

Requirements

  • Prior experience in composites or similar industry preferred
  • Strong problem-solving ability including troubleshooting and resolving issues
  • Must be able to stand for prolonged periods of time
  • Must be able to reach and bend on a consistent basis
  • Must be able t occasionally lift 50 lbs
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, multi-task production environment
  • Effective communication skills, both verbal ad written
  • Ability to organize and prioritize workload
  • Ability to exercise initiative and sound judgment
  • Ability to work in harmony with others while maintaining a positive and professional attitude with overall success in mind
  • Evidence of a satisfactory work record including performance, attendance and teamwork
  • Ability to remain calm under pressure and deal with issues logically and within the company guidelines
  • Available for overtime as needed

Responsibilities

  • LRTM: Ensure proper waxing and care of molds/back shells (tape test every time)
  • Use proper loading techniques to ensure material is placed correctly prior to injection
  • Install the back shell without the glass falling
  • Properly use the injection machine – automatic or manual systems
  • Ensure proper vacuum operation; check/detect/correct leaks
  • Mix resin/fillers safely and properly
  • Use proper pulling techniques, checking for flaws in the part before and after pulling
  • Identify defects and follow proper procedure for non-conformance
  • Proper use of hoist
  • Maintain forklift license
  • Follow safety guidelines and wear required PPE
  • Maintain all necessary documentation related to position
  • TRIM: Properly inspect, use and care for cutting tools
  • Properly seat part in fixture and clamp in correct areas for proper tightness
  • Troubleshoot when vacuum fixtures do not hold seal
  • Cut to scribe line
  • Read ruler
  • Use Go/No Go Gauges
  • Confirm route card has been signed off for every step that has been completed
  • Read, understand and follow work procedures
  • Follow safety guidelines and wear required PPE
  • Maintain all necessary documentation related to position
  • LAMINATION: Properly assemble and disassemble/clean the lamination gun
  • Chop or hand lay material in an even coat not using too much or too little resin
  • Select proper rollers and roll out all air pockets
  • Keep resin and catalyst filled
  • Read, understand and follow work procedures
  • Identify defects and follow proper procedure for non-conformance
  • Follow safety guidelines and wear required PPE
  • Maintain all necessary documentation related to position
