Your future role Take on a new challenge and apply your mechanical expertise in a hands‑on, unionized maintenance environment. You’ll work alongside skilled, safety‑driven and collaborative teammates. In this role, you’ll help ensure our locomotives and passenger equipment remain safe, reliable and compliant—directly supporting the daily performance of rail services across Los Angeles. Day‑to‑day, you’ll work with maintenance, shop and operations teams to diagnose mechanical issues, complete component repairs and carry out FRA‑compliant inspections. You’ll perform troubleshooting on engines, air brake systems, running gear and related equipment, and you’ll keep accurate digital maintenance records in accordance with established procedures. You’ll specifically take care of inspecting, maintaining and repairing diesel‑powered rail equipment while interpreting mechanical drawings, schematics and service instructions to complete high‑quality repairs.

Requirements

  • A high‑school diploma/GED and interest in mechanical or electrical work.
  • Experience or understanding of mechanical maintenance, equipment repair or related technical fields.
  • Knowledge of reading blueprints, mechanical drawings or circuit schematics.
  • Familiarity with basic electrical theory.
  • Ability to follow written and verbal safety instructions.
  • A valid driver’s license with no alcohol/substance‑related moving violations in the past 36 months.
  • Willingness to obtain Qualified Maintenance Person (QMP) designation.
  • Basic proficiency with Windows and Microsoft Office tools.

Responsibilities

  • Delivering accurate, safe mechanical repairs and inspections in compliance with FRA and railroad rules.
  • Diagnosing equipment malfunctions and restoring components to operational condition.
  • Completing digital work orders in the asset‑management system.
  • Assisting with safe movement of locomotives or passenger coaches when required.
  • Supporting a strong safety culture and contributing to continuous improvement.
