About The Position

Composite Manufacturing Technicians work under direct supervision with instructions provided for all activities. Typical tasks include a full range of composite manufacturing processes.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or equivalent with 0 to 3 years of prior related experience.

Responsibilities

  • Produce parts, components, and final assemblies using composite fabrication, compression molding, metal fabrication, modification, checkout, rework, quality testing, and assembly, following detailed work instructions, schematics, diagrams, layouts, or manufacturing test/diagnostic equipment.
  • Prepare various components for lay-up, filament winding, cure, and post-cure using cured and uncured rubber materials and adhesives.
  • Operate various machinery and shop equipment, including but not limited to filament winders, ovens, autoclaves, manual lathes, CNC lathes, CNC milling centers, manual mills, boring mills, presses, furnaces, mixers, grinders, swages, paint booths, fume hoods, and automated welding equipment.
  • Fabricate and assemble piece parts into completed subassemblies using assembly tools.
  • Perform vacuum bagging and related processes for fabrication and curing of composite parts.
  • Complete structural bonding operations using film adhesives, core materials, and adhesives.
  • Build complex layups individually and in small groups.
  • Apply insulation to mandrels and composite cases.
  • Perform filament winding of composite structures.
  • Cast, cure, and machine sand mandrels.
  • Facilitate and conduct on-the-job (OJT) training for technicians as required.
  • Troubleshoot processes and identify, modify, and/or escalate out-of-control processes and production escapes.
  • Coordinate with maintenance, supervision, and/or engineering in the setup and calibration of equipment.
  • Participate in preventive maintenance activities.
  • Clean machines, equipment, and work areas according to Standard Operating Procedures.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
