About The Position

The Component Quality Engineer, Optics at Meta is responsible for developing and implementing quality programs for optical components used in Meta's infrastructure. This role involves collaboration with suppliers and manufacturing partners to enhance product quality through various engineering and quality assurance methodologies.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Optical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Applied Physics, or related field.
  • 5+ years of experience in the development and validation of optical communication components such as lasers, transmitters, receivers, and transceivers.
  • Experience in high-speed optical and electrical test and measurement equipment, control, data acquisition, and test automation.
  • Knowledge of reliability mechanisms and modeling/predictive fail rate analyses.
  • Proven understanding of quality systems, audit experience, and knowledge of statistical quality tools.
  • Experience working with and managing offshore contract manufacturers.
  • Proven communication skills.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with advanced modulation formats, direct detect and coherent systems (e.g., OOK, PAM-4, QPSK, 8-QAM, 16QAM).
  • Experience with optical integration including InP PICs, Silicon-photonic PICs, PIC-IC integration, and 3D optical/silicon packaging technologies.
  • Programming skills in one or more of the following: Python or MATLAB.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement Critical-to-Quality (CTQ) performance metrics to assess and enhance product quality.
  • Conduct Failure Modes and Effects Analysis (FMEA) to identify potential failure modes and high volume manufacturing challenges.
  • Design and carry out reliability tests to assess the performance and durability of optical modules and components.
  • Establish advanced in-house testing capabilities for reliability and performance to strengthen overall product design robustness.
  • Lead continuous improvement initiatives based on Root Cause Analysis (RCA) and identified opportunities in collaboration with optical suppliers.
  • Perform regular audits of manufacturing facilities.
  • Partner with Original Design Manufacturers (ODMs), component suppliers, and Quality Assurance (QA) teams to ensure comprehensive coverage.
  • Create detailed reports and dashboards that document reliability test outcomes, failure analysis insights, and recommendations for improvement.
  • Review and qualify supplier product, process and engineering change notifications.
