About The Position

Rockwell Automation is seeking an accomplished Component Engineer with electronics design or component engineering experience to join a diverse, global engineering team. This role involves guiding hardware development teams on component selection for Rockwell products and will report to the Manager, Component Engineering. The position follows a hybrid schedule, working in Mayfield Heights, OH.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Relevant Field.
  • Legal authorization to work in the U.S.
  • The ability to travel 10% of the time.

Nice To Haves

  • Typically requires a minimum of 5 years of related experience.
  • Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering.
  • 3+ of hardware design or component engineering experience.
  • Understanding of component lifecycles and obsolescence mitigation.
  • Experience with SAP and or Windchill PLM systems.
  • Familiar with Silicon Expert or other 3rd party lifecycle management tools.
  • Experience with component derating.
  • Experience with Lean Six Sigma methodologies.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of various electronic commodities including passives, integrated circuits, and power electronics.

Responsibilities

  • Be part of a dynamic Component Engineering team supporting all Rockwell Automation businesses across a wide range of electronic and electromechanical commodities.
  • Act as the Component Engineering project representative and participate in project reviews for new product introductions and major redesign initiatives.
  • Play a key role across multiple phases of product development by providing guidance on proper component selection and risk mitigation.
  • Collaborate with cross‑functional engineering teams (e.g., mechanical, electrical) located globally, while working closely with Strategic Sourcing and Quality organizations.
  • Support failure analysis activities for supported businesses as needed.
  • Engage directly with Rockwell Automation's supply base and coordinate presentations on new and emerging technologies applicable to RA products.
  • Partner with Hardware Development and Continuation teams to educate and train on best practices for component selection and provide guidance on Component Engineering processes.
  • Contribute within a collaborative, innovative, fast‑paced global environment that values problem solving and results.
  • Develop technical depth and leadership capabilities by taking on increasing scope and responsibility over time.
  • Drive productivity improvements through the development and implementation of strategies leveraging high‑quality, cost‑effective components.
  • Participate in initiatives to improve transactional efficiency, including the use of advanced tools such as AI.
