Overview: The Compliance Testing Specialist plays a critical role in the credit union’s compliance function by conducting regular testing and monitoring to ensure adherence to regulatory requirements and internal policies. The role also assumes oversight of key vendor‑management functions to ensure accuracy, effectiveness, and ongoing compliance.

Requirements

  • High School diploma or GED required
  • 3+ years of compliance testing experience with working knowledge of, and partnership with, compliance, audit, quality control and/or risk
  • Proven experience interpreting regulatory compliance standard
  • Ability to research regulatory requirements effectively and understand internal policies.
  • Solid understanding of financial institutions and their regulatory environment
  • Strength in working independently to review, evaluate and research timely while possessing the skillset to build relationships, ask questions and collaborate professionally
  • Possess a questioning mind - A continuous, proactive approach to challenging assumptions
  • Ability to provide critical assessments; evaluating evidence for sufficiency, reliability, and contradiction
  • High degree of alertness to risk with the ability to recognize signs of potential concern and dig deeper for understanding, not taking responses at face value misstatement, such as inconsistencies or unusual transactions
  • Ability to maintain objectivity and showcase professionalism and collaboration with teams
  • Strong analytical skills and attention to detail

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelors degree in business, financing or pre-law preferred
  • Preferred Certifications: NCCO, CAMS, CRCM, NCBSO

Responsibilities

  • Identify potential compliance issues and provide recommendations for remediation to ensure adherence to regulatory requirements
  • Perform ongoing monitoring and targeted testing across operational areas.
  • As directed, review processes, forms, and procedures for regulatory compliance
  • Document testing results and prepare summary reports.
  • Identify control gaps, recommend corrective action, and verify remediation
  • Support expansion of the testing and monitoring program
  • Assist with vendor due diligence documentation, updates, regulatory changes, and policy enhancements.
  • Conduct thorough and comprehensive regulatory compliance testing to ensure all operations and processes at the credit union are in line with relevant laws and regulations
  • Continuously develop and maintain a comprehensive understanding of all applicable laws, regulations, and industry standards to effectively assess compliance
  • Collaborate with internal teams to implement necessary changes and improvements to processes and procedures to ensure compliance
  • Monitor and track changes in laws and regulations to ensure the credit union is continuously meeting all compliance obligations
  • Develop and maintain relationships with regulatory agencies as appropriate and stay updated on changes in their expectations and requirements
  • Prepare and present compliance reports to senior management and regulatory bodies
  • Partner with Learning & Development to coordinate training for team members on compliance obligations and promote a strong culture of compliance within the organization
  • Investigate and respond to compliance-related inquiries and complaints from internal and external stakeholders
