About The Position

Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University, celebrating its Centennial, is seeking a Compliance Specialist to join its Human Resources team. This role reports to the Human Resources Operations Manager and is responsible for supporting institutional compliance across various HR functions, including employment eligibility, labor regulations, background screening, and immigration processes. The position is based at the Daytona Beach campus and provides HR compliance support to the Daytona Beach, Prescott, and Worldwide campuses. The university is the world’s largest aviation and aerospace university, offering cutting-edge programs in STEM education to over 30,000 students globally.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business, Management, or related field.
  • 3-5 years of experience in an HR or compliance-related role (may be substituted for degree).
  • Demonstrated ability to interpret federal and state regulations.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Analytical skills with an in-depth knowledge of information systems and technical expertise with Microsoft operating systems, Excel, PowerPoint, Word, Outlook/email, and Internet end-user applications.

  • Experience with Workday HRIS.
  • In-depth knowledge and understanding of Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA), Equal Employment Opportunity (EEO) laws, the Family and Medical Leave Act (FMLA), and immigration laws.

Responsibilities

  • Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local employment laws and regulations, including FLSA, EEO, FMLA, and immigration requirements.
  • Maintain documentation for audits and regulatory review.
  • Conduct regular audits of HR practices and processes, including compensation and payment reviews, to ensure compliance with internal and external standards.
  • Maintain accurate records of compliance activities, including audit findings, policy updates, and training sessions.
  • Develop, implement, and update HR policies and procedures in alignment with legal requirements and best practices.
  • Communicate and enforce policies across the organization.
  • Complete required government reporting (monthly, quarterly, and annual), including but not limited to Affirmative Action Plans, VETS reporting, and CSC filings.
  • Coordinate onboarding and support for employees with various visa statuses, ensuring proper immigration documentation.
  • Oversee I-9 compliance, employment eligibility verification, and background screening processes.
  • Support and coordinate internal and external compliance audits.
  • Monitor and respond to changes in employment laws and regulations, updating policies as needed.
