About The Position

Brewer Science, Inc. is a major innovator of high-technology solutions for the semiconductor / microelectronics markets. We are currently seeking a purpose-driven candidate with an ownership mentality to fill an open position as a Compliance Specialist - Trade Focus (level III or IV). This position will be located in Rolla, MO. Summary: Compliance Specialists ensure the organization’s compliance with various legal requirements through learning and understanding the requirements, communicating them to the company and specific stakeholders, implementing processes to ensure that the company is following the regulations, and checking to ensure compliance. The Trade Compliance focus of the role will deal with import and export, including EAR and ITAR requirements, customs requirements, and global counterparts.

Requirements

  • Compliance Specialist III: Juris doctorate from an accredited law school and 2+ years related experience or Bachelor’s degree in business, legal studies, or related field and 6+ years related experience or An equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Compliance Specialist IV: Juris doctorate from an accredited law school and 6+ years related experience or Bachelor’s degree in business, legal studies, or related field and 10+ years related experience or An equivalent combination of education and experience.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain current knowledge on current legal requirements including, but not limited to, privacy, import/export, and other relevant regulations as they apply.
  • Perform research by searching online, attending conferences and trainings, and consulting with outside advisors (i.e., attorneys, accountants, industry experts).
  • Communicate relevant regulations and requirements to affected employees through regular personal communication, trainings, and other methods.
  • Work independently with stakeholders to develop and implement policies and processes that encourage and ensure compliance with relevant regulations.
  • Lead and conduct comprehensive compliance audits, identifying areas for improvement.
  • Update policies, processes, and procedures as new gaps or opportunities for improvement are identified and/or regulations change or are created.
  • Identify and implement systems to help with compliance.
  • Establish and implement checks to determine if compliance is successfully achieved in an efficient and effective manner by regularly auditing compliance with established policies, processes, and procedures.
  • Implement corrective actions and updates where necessary.
  • Respond to external and internal inquiries regarding compliance, including answering questions and responding to audit requests, etc.
  • Decipher complex rules and regulations, contemplating potential implications and failure models and consequences for not following the regulations, etc., recommending further course of action.
  • Ensure the implementation of effective compliance policies and procedures.
  • Lead investigators into compliance issues and develop corrective action plans.
  • Maintain expert-level knowledge of current and emerging legal requirements, including privacy, import/export, environmental, trade, and industry-specific regulations.
  • Establish and maintain relationships with regulatory agencies and industry stakeholders.
  • Lead complex regulatory research initiatives, engaging external counsel and industry experts as needed.
  • Develop and deliver advanced compliance training programs.
  • Independently lead cross-functional teams to design, implement, and enhance compliance policies and systems.
  • Proactively identify systemic compliance risks and drive enterprise-wide process improvements.
  • Design and implement compliance monitoring systems and data analytics tools.
  • Lead internal audits and compliance assessments; oversee corrective action plans and verify effective resolution.
  • Serve as primary point of contact for regulatory inspections and external audits within assigned domains.
  • Interpret complex regulations, assess business risk exposure, model potential failure scenarios, and recommend strategic mitigation actions.
