About The Position

The Compliance Officer oversees and develops, maintains and revises policies and procedures to meet the expectations of regulatory, accreditation bodies and Industry laws regulations and standards. The Compliance officer is not a decision maker in the organization. Instead, they provide unbiased information for decision making to leaders and the Executive team. They also provide information to the CEO on recommendations. If necessary for following chain of command, the Compliance Officer has access to the Board of Directors. The healthcare Compliance Officer will be a highly ethical person who prioritizes the protection of their organization and is able to act in an unbiased and fair manner. They must act and investigate compliance concerns confidentially. They need to be proactive, organized, and trustworthy. Assure investigations are not accusatory and putting other in a hostile environment. The Compliance committee also holds responsibilities in the organization, including the analysis of the organization's threat, assessment of policies and procedures addressing the threat areas, and recommendations for and monitoring of internal systems and controls to accomplish the organization's Compliance objectives.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in a healthcare or related field such as nursing or healthcare administration required.
  • Master's Degree preferred.
  • Five to ten years' experience in Compliance or a leadership role in healthcare operations or management.
  • Certified in Healthcare Compliance (CHC) preferred.
  • Must be familiar with the many laws and regulations that govern their healthcare organization.
  • Must be knowledgeable of Colorado laws governing special districts.
  • Knowledge and experience interpreting and implementing state and federal laws, including but not limited to HIPAA and Compliance.
  • Experience performing objective audits and investigations.

Responsibilities

  • Responsible for the Developing, maintaining and implementing processes that meet the regulatory compliance of an organization.
  • Oversee and monitor the organization's compliance program
  • Report on a regular basis to the organization's CEO and to the compliance committee on the activities of the compliance program
  • Revise the compliance program periodically in response to changes in regulations and in accordance with the needs of the organization
  • Develop, coordinate and implement an effective educational and training program for employees on the elements of the compliance program and ensure employees are knowledgeable of relevant federal and state regulations. Monitor staff's compliance.
  • Responsible for OIG reports and state reporting
  • Ensure that independent contractors who provide services in the organization are aware of the compliance program
  • Work with human resources to ensure all employees and contractors have been screened and checked against sanction and exclusion lists. Verify accuracy and submission where needed.
  • Assist in internal compliance review and monitoring activities
  • Investigate compliance matters including suggestions for corrective actions to CEO.
  • Develop policies and programs that encourage employees to report suspected compliance issues in a safe environment, free from accusation and retaliation.
  • Create and cultivate a culture of compliance within the organization
  • Understands and follows chain of command.
  • Understands contractual obligations and oversite.
  • Ensuring all policies and procedures are compliant with current regulations and upholding the organization's core values
  • Develops and maintains productive working relationships with all levels of management
  • Educating department directors, administrators, the CEO, and the governing board of the importance of compliance, and speaking up to leaders when compliance is jeopardized
  • All investigations that may need a higher level of oversite will be addressed with the CEO, the CEO will determine if the situation warrants legal involvement.
  • Assist department heads in establishing department-level mechanisms to monitor compliance with standards set forth in the Compliance Policy / Code of Conduct.
  • Investigate alleged violations of the Compliance Program; work with appropriate leaders to respond to the violation promptly, properly, and consistently.
  • Identify and report serious violations of law directory to the Board of Directors, including presentation of findings in Executive Sessions.
  • Develop and maintain manual and automated audit processes to identify and promote timely response to identified or suspected non-compliance.
  • Prepare for and Chair Compliance Committee meetings on a quarterly basis.
  • Assures compliance with all regulatory statutes, standards, issues, and agencies.
  • Responsible annually for the implementation, review, revision, and management of department policies, procedures, workflows, job descriptions, and other essential documents unspecified.
  • Responsible for the annual review, revision, and implementation of department specific scopes of service.
  • Understand and adhere to quality metrics; ensure department staff understand and participate in quality improvement efforts, measurements, and implementation.
  • Actively participate in committees and meetings as requested.
  • Other duties as assigned.
