About The Position

The Compliance Analyst I at Brown University plays a crucial role in managing the university's export control and research security program. Reporting to the Assistant Director of Export Controls and Research Security, this position is integral to ensuring compliance with various regulations and policies related to export controls, research security, and conflict of interest. The Compliance Analyst I will assist in assessing international activities associated with research, teaching, travel, and shipping, conducting complex analyses of export control scenarios that arise in connection with university activities. This role involves advising faculty, students, and administrators on appropriate policies and procedures, preparing applications for export control licenses, devising and implementing control plans, and conducting requisite screenings. Additionally, the Compliance Analyst I will review agreements that include export control and sanctions terms and perform quality assurance monitoring to ensure compliance with related regulations. In addition to export controls and research security, the Compliance Analyst I will support the university's Conflict of Interest (COI) program. This includes assisting with annual and ad hoc faculty COI reporting and disclosure, independently reviewing cases involving potential conflicts of interest and conflicts of commitment, and supporting the Conflict-of-Interest Review Board (COIRB). The Compliance Analyst I will also help implement and monitor conflict management plans, ensuring that the university adheres to its ethical standards and regulatory obligations. The role requires developing and administering relevant compliance training and education for a wide variety of university stakeholders, as well as interfacing with external regulators and university visitors. A strong understanding of applicable regulations related to export controls, sanctions, and research security is essential, along with familiarity with regulations and policies related to Research Integrity, including COI regulations and policies.
