About The Position

The Compliance Advisor for Global Sanctions will serve a multi-purpose role supporting both sanctions alert management, investigations, program management, and sanctions screening technology. This role will serve as a key bridge between sanctions policy, investigations, and technology. The Compliance Advisor, Global Sanctions will help ensure sanctions screening applications are operating as intended, while also applying sound investigative judgment to assess potential OFAC and other global sanctions exposures. The position requires strong analytical skills, collaborative working relationships within Financial Crimes Compliance and across Fidelity, comfort working with technology and data, and a solid understanding of global sanctions regimes.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field (e.g., Finance, Economics, International Relations, Political Science, Criminal Justice, Data or Computer Science, or similar).
  • 2 – 5+ years of experience in sanctions, AML, financial crimes, compliance, or a related field, with exposure to sanctions screening and/or investigations.
  • Working knowledge of OFAC sanctions regulations and familiarity with at least one additional global sanctions regime (e.g., CA, UK, EU, etc.).
  • Experience using sanctions screening technology or case-management systems.
  • Strong analytical and investigative skills, with the ability to assess nuanced risk and apply sound judgment.
  • Proven ability to see investigations through to completion, ensuring all deliverables meet high-quality standards
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to clearly document investigations and explain technical issues to non-technical stakeholders.

  • Technical aptitude: Comfortable working with screening systems, rules logic, and testing processes.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience within a financial institution, broker-dealer, asset manager, or fintech environment.
  • Exposure to sanctions technology implementations, upgrades, or rule tuning initiatives.
  • Comfort working with data, metrics, and reporting (e.g., SQL, dashboards, or alert analytics).
  • Professional certifications such as ACAMS, CGSS, or OFAC-focused training (or willingness to obtain).

Responsibilities

  • Sanctions Screening Technology & Controls Draft, configure, and maintain sanctions screening rules and parameters, as well as perform end-to-end testing to confirm systems are operating as designed and aligned with regulatory expectations.
  • Support system installations, upgrades, and deployments of sanctions screening tools, including coordination with technology teams, review of release notes, and post-implementation validation.
  • Partner with technology and data teams to identify and remediate data quality issues that could impact screening effectiveness.
  • Participate in user acceptance testing and regression testing for new sanctions technology initiatives and enhancements.
  • Perform and document end-to-end First- and Second-Line testing of sanctions screening models and rule changes to demonstrate effectiveness, regulatory alignment, and adherence to internal model governance standards.
  • Collaborate with Technology, Data, and Vendor Management teams to assess and remediate data lineage, mapping, truncation, transliteration, and enrichment issues that may impact sanctions screening model performance.
  • Sanctions Program Management, Investigations & Escalations Review and analyze sanctions screening alert escalations generated across customers, accounts, transactions, and securities activity.
  • Review and provide guidance on sanctions escalations and inquiries across all business lines and conduct detailed investigations into higher-risk cases leveraging internal systems, external research, and sanctions lists.
  • Escalate confirmed matches and higher-risk cases to senior sanctions advisors, Legal, or other stakeholders with clear summaries and risk-based recommendations.
  • Support sanctions screening and investigations related to digital asset activity.
  • Support preparation of regulatory reports (e.g., blocked or rejected transaction reports) and internal reporting related to sanctions events or exposures.
  • Participate in thematic reviews, risk assessments and controls testing, policy and procedure reviews, and issue analyses to identify trends, emerging risks, or control gaps.
  • Engage and coordinate with other Financial Crimes Compliance teams and business stakeholders on overlapping cases to ensure sanctions risks are appropriately identified and addressed.
