About The Position

As a Complex Specimen Processor PRN- Microbiology with HCA Healthcare, you will be responsible for the management and handling of inbound and outbound samples, including tracking, accessioning/registration, sample preparation, and processing for in-house testing or submission to third parties. You will ensure positive patient identification in the handling, plating, and labeling of samples and slides, perform test order entry procedures accurately and timely, and demonstrate a thorough understanding of specimen collection, culture set-up, storage, transport, and testing requirements. Additionally, you will prepare and receive samples for courier pick-up, perform clerical duties, and assist with supply inventory.

Requirements

• High School Diploma required.
• Associate's Degree preferred.
• Minimum 2 years of experience in a laboratory setting preferred.
• Knowledge of laboratory methods as well as specimen collection, culture set up, storage, transport, and testing requirements.
• Excellent communication skills and effective teamwork.
• Ability to organize work according to priority.

Responsibilities

• Manage and handle inbound and outbound samples including tracking, accessioning/registration, sample preparation, and processing.
• Ensure positive patient identification in the handling, plating, and labeling of samples and slides.
• Perform test order entry procedures with accuracy and in a timely manner.
• Demonstrate understanding of specimen collection, culture set-up, storage, transport, and testing requirements.
• Prepare, label, and handle laboratory specimens according to established policies and procedures.
• Prepare and receive samples for courier pick-up and include any special instructions.
• Perform clerical duties such as answering and making telephone calls, communicating test results, typing and data entry, sample retrieval, filing paperwork and slides, faxing documents, and assisting with supply inventory.
