Shimadzu Scientific Instruments is seeking a Compensation Specialist to join our corporate team in Columbia, MD. This is a high-impact role responsible for helping shape how we reward performance, structure pay programs, and ensure internal equity across the business. In this role, you'll focus heavily on variable compensation design, COLA program administration, and pay structure optimization. If you’re highly organized, Excel-savvy, and eager to learn how compensation supports business strategy, this is the role for you.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree required (Finance, Economics, or related fields preferred)
  • Familiarity with Excel or other spreadsheet tools
  • Strong attention to detail and interest in data analysis
  • Professional communication skills, both verbal and written
  • Willingness to learn and apply compensation principles over time
  • Ability to handle confidential information with discretion

Responsibilities

  • Learn how to design and maintain salary bands and pay structures
  • Assist with tracking and calculating bonuses, commissions, and incentives
  • Support our team in reviewing external market data and salary surveys
  • Participate in administering our Cost-of-Living Adjustment (COLA) program
  • Assist with maintaining internal documentation of compensation plans
  • Learn how to review data for equity and compliance in compensation decisions
  • Support annual bonus and pay raise processes with guidance from senior team members
  • Shadow and support in writing job descriptions and assigning job classifications

  • Eligible benefits include a 401K matching program and discretionary yearly contributions, with detailed information provided at the final interview stage.
  • In your first year, you will receive 10 paid vacation days, 8 paid personal days, 8 scheduled holidays, and 3 floating holidays.
  • After one year, you’ll have access to a generous short-term disability program, with premiums fully covered by the company. Employees are insured at 100% of their salary for the first 6 weeks and 66 2/3% for weeks 7 to 12.
  • As a non-exempt role, you will also be eligible for overtime and double time pay according to employee handbook guidelines.
  • Additional variable compensation may include a discretionary year-end bonus based on overall company performance.
