About The Position

In this role, you will serve as a consultant to SPD Field HR and State agency leaders in matters of classification, compensation, and organizational structure. You will be assigned a portfolio of approximately 10-15 various State agencies to provide support in the following areas: Evaluating job duties, requirements, responsibilities, and competencies of various roles to determine appropriate job category, skill level, and job series Reviewing and approving salary requests for new hires and current state employees while maintaining internal equity Maintaining compliance with federal, state, and agency laws, rules, and policies related to compensation and position management Developing organizational charts that provide a visual representation of current reporting structure and/or proposed changes As a member of the Compensation & Organizational Development team, you will also participate in various state and national salary surveys and market benchmarking, assist with facilitating trainings and workshops, and contribute to other team projects as needed. To succeed in this role, applicants should ideally have the following skills and abilities: Excellent attention to detail Ability to assess complex problems and information to identify effective and logical solutions with consideration of potential impact of decisions Ability to articulate recommendations in a way that gains buy-in from agency stakeholders Ability to navigate various websites, HRIS systems, and Tableau workbooks to perform research as needed Demonstrated experience providing great customer service and/or human resources support

Requirements

  • Specialized knowledge of the principles, laws, regulations, theories and practices of Human Resources management and administration, specifically Classification and Compensation.
  • Working knowledge of computer and software programs and the ability to utilize these skills in the completion of job duties.
  • Ability to analyze policies and procedures and be able to recommend improvements.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently, anticipate problems and initiate corrective actions.
  • Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills.
  • Ability to formulate sound recommendations and make appropriate decisions with consideration of potential impact on agency/division/local office or facility/statewide.

Responsibilities

  • Review and analyzes compensation and classification initiatives.
  • Provide consultation and guidance regarding classification and compensation.
  • Analyze classification and compensation requests and presents recommendations to management that offer alternative strategies as appropriate.
  • Serve as liaison between state agencies and the Indiana State Personnel Department.
  • Create and provides training on compensation issues.
  • Identifie potential classification, compensation and reorganization problems and recommends solutions.
  • Perform market studies as required for classifications.
  • Complete salary surveys.
