The Department of Comparative Medicine (DCM) is service-oriented department which is responsible for the care and well-being of multiple species of research animals. Technicians are responsible for the health and welfare of research animals, maintenance of a clean and safe facility, and provision of technical support when requested by the research staff. The DCM staff works together to provide excellent care for the animals; maintain compliance with all regulations, internal policies, and standard operating procedures; and ensure adherence to the high standards required for continued AAALAC accreditation. The Level II Technician’s primary responsibilities include all aspects of animal care including husbandry, enrichment, training, facility cleanliness and maintenance, cage and cage component processing, health checks, and administration of medication. Level II technical duties may also include anesthesia administration and monitoring, patient surgical preparation, sample collection, and other project support procedures. Level II technicians assist with or perform administrative tasks such as inventory control, stock rotation, and other duties as assigned by the Director or Supervisor. Requires flexible schedule, including weekends and holidays.
