About The Position

SUMMARY: The Truck Driver will transport materials from the lumber yard to job sites in a safe and timely manner. Loads and unloads materials manually or mechanically by following company delivery guidelines. POSITION: CDL-A TRUCK DRIVER DEPARTMENT: Morse Lumber Shipping Dept. PAY: Hourly, Non- Exempt REPORTS TO: Dispatch Supervisor HOURS: M-F, 7AM-3:30PM, Seasonal Overtime, may contain Saturdays. Requirements

  • Clean CDL Class A New York State Driver’s License.
  • High School Diploma/GED equivalent preferred.
  • Must be able to present a current DOT Medical Certificate.
  • Must be able to Pass a required Drug and Alcohol Screen.
  • Knowledge of Rochester and Surrounding Areas Roads and Highways.
  • Employees must be reliable, punctual, and safety-minded, with a strong work ethic.
  • Employees Must display a positive, helpful demeanor, and a commitment to providing the best in customer service.
  • Basic math and reading skills to perform job tasks and complete necessary paperwork.
  • Knowledge of and ability to operate a forklift. (Willing to train)
  • Knowledge of and ability to operate a Moffett. (Willing to train)
  • Physically demanding job that requires being able to sit and stand for the duration of assigned shift.
  • The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 25 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 100 pounds.
  • Ability to follow oral and/or written instructions.
  • 1 Year Verified CDL- A Driving Experience.

Nice To Haves

  • Building Material Distribution or Construction Experience a Plus.

Responsibilities

  • Safely drives a commercial vehicle in compliance with all DOT regulations.
  • Conducts a pre-trip and post-trip inspection per DOT guidelines.
  • Straps truck in a safe manner and within DOT guidelines.
  • Maintains truck log per state and federal regulations as assigned.
  • Verifies load against shipping paperwork.
  • Actively loads and unloads truck manually or with equipment including Moffett or Flatbed Dump.
  • Maintains telephone or radio contact with the supervisor to receive delivery instructions.
  • Performs regular and emergency roadside repairs such as installing light bulbs & fuses.
  • Communicate problems, concerns, and ideas to management. Identify process improvements.
  • Maintain a clean, neat, and orderly commercial vehicle.
  • Participate in all assigned training programs and adhere to all company policies and procedures.
  • Develop and maintain excellent customer service to internal and external customers.
  • Responsibilities may include Material Handling Duties as needed.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
