Job Summary & Description: Empowered Services is hiring a Direct Support Professional (DSP) to support individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities in the Portland area. DSPs help customers live independently by assisting with daily activities, community outings, and personal goals. In this role, you will build meaningful relationships that inspire confidence, promote independence, and support individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities in living fulfilling, joyful lives. As a DSP, you will work one-on-one with each customer to understand their unique needs, support them in achieving their goals, and provide care in a positive, encouraging, and safe environment. Our DSPs serve not only as caregivers but also as mentors, advocates, and trusted companions for the individuals we support. 053: This customer values consistency, clear communication, and mutual respect. A provider who takes the time to actively listen, engage respectfully, and treat this individual as an informed adult will be the best fit. This individual benefits from structure and routine, while also needing support navigating flexibility in day-to-day life. Providers should be adaptable, but also confident in maintaining clear and professional boundaries. At times, there may be requests for schedule changes or communication outside of working hours, so it is important that the DSP can kindly and consistently reinforce established expectations. Maintaining these boundaries is key to building a healthy, sustainable working relationship. Providers should also be detail-oriented and mindful in their documentation, ensuring that all communication and interactions are accurately recorded. This helps support accountability and ensures the best outcomes for everyone involved. In this role, you will support engagement in the community, encourage participation in meaningful and budget-friendly activities, and help build daily structure that promotes independence and stability. You will play an important part in empowering this individual to reach personal goals while creating a supportive and respectful environment. We are looking for someone who is flexible, proactive, and attentive; someone who can provide consistent support while also fostering independence and confidence. (Tuesday - Friday if preferred, Saturdays if desired).

Requirements

  • Must pass a background check. - Not all charges will warrant a disqualification.
  • Must be 18 years or older with a high school diploma or equivalent.
  • Must have a valid driver’s license, with a good driving record.
  • Must have your own reliable vehicle, with full coverage auto insurance.
  • Must be comfortable providing respectful support with personal care, including bathroom and hygiene.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with the I/DD community is preferred but not required.

Responsibilities

  • Provide compassionate direct care and support to individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD), helping them live independently and safely in their homes and communities.
  • Assist with daily living activities
  • Support customers with activities of daily living (ADLs) including personal hygiene, nutrition, mobility, exercise, communication, household tasks, and transportation to appointments or community activities.
  • Support community engagement
  • Help customers participate in community outings such as shopping, recreational activities, social events, and local programs to promote independence and social connection.
  • Encourage life skills and independence
  • Provide coaching and guidance with life skills, routines, social development, and goal-setting to help customers build confidence and independence.
  • Follow individualized support plans
  • Implement support strategies and behavioral supports based on the customer’s individualized service plan and goals.
  • Build positive relationships
  • Develop respectful, supportive relationships that promote trust, dignity, and meaningful engagement.
  • Communicate with care teams
  • Maintain regular communication with County Coordinators, supervisors, and family members as appropriate.
  • Report updates, incidents, or concerns in a timely manner.
  • Maintain health and safety
  • Follow all safety protocols and best practices to ensure a safe and supportive environment for customers.
  • Complete required documentation
  • Accurately document services provided, progress toward goals, and daily activities according to program requirements.
  • Participate in training
  • Complete required state trainings, CPR certification, and continuing education to maintain compliance and provide high-quality care.
