About The Position

The Community Support Professional (CSP) plays a crucial role in training, motivating, supervising, and communicating with individuals served to help them achieve their goals. The CSP is responsible for implementing Person-Centered Plans (PCP) developed in collaboration with an Individual Support Team (IST), which includes various stakeholders. The position emphasizes vocational development and aims to balance realistic employment expectations with the individual readiness of each person served.

Requirements

  • High school graduate or equivalent.
  • Good oral and written communication skills.
  • Ability to perform arithmetic operations accurately.
  • Must be at least 23 years of age and possess a valid Alabama driver's license with proof of current liability insurance.
  • Ability to lift heavy objects, a minimum of 30 pounds.
  • Demonstrated application of population-specific competencies within six months of employment.

Nice To Haves

  • Knowledge of psychiatric disorders and intellectual disabilities in the adult population.
  • Knowledge of cultural diversity and available community resources.
  • Familiarity with behavior management and crisis intervention techniques.
  • Understanding of Person Center Planning and self-determination philosophy.
  • Knowledge of applicable standards (DMH, Joint Commission, Medicaid).
  • Experience with electronic incident reporting.

Responsibilities

  • Instructs and interacts with individuals receiving support to achieve goals outlined in the PCP.
  • Uses sound judgment and follows supervisor's instructions to promote self-sufficiency and independence.
  • Engages in conversations with individuals about their personal needs and aspirations in a supportive manner.
  • Collaborates with the team to develop and adapt instruction to meet individual needs.
  • Utilizes verbal and nonverbal communication methods to convey expected behaviors and activities.
  • Collects data to assess progress in various programs, including behavior management and vocational training.
  • Familiarizes with the Connections Handbook and serves as a role model for individuals supported.
  • Facilitates community inclusion and assists in planning daily activities that promote social capital.
  • Reports health concerns and incidents to supervisors in compliance with agency policy.
  • Prepares written assessments and performance appraisals to identify strengths and development opportunities.
  • Coordinates with the Division Coordinator for coverage and daily assignments.
