About The Position

The Community Support & Culinary Services Specialist provides person-centered support to individuals with developmental disabilities while overseeing culinary operations such as a food truck and community meal programs. This role combines direct support responsibilities with culinary training and community engagement, promoting independence, skill development, and inclusion through food service activities.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or Equivalent required. Associates degree preferred.
  • Valid NY State Driver’s License and access to a reliable, registered, and insured vehicle. Should be able to drive a food truck when needed
  • Prior experience serving individuals with intellectual and/or developmental disabilities preferred
  • At least two years of experience in restaurant management or culinary skills.
  • Knowledge of the local community
  • An understanding and respect for youth and individuals with disabilities
  • Experienced in food service, basic culinary skills and knowledge of safety, cleanliness and safe food handling measures as noted above.
  • Ability to work cooperatively with a diverse group of staff and trainees with disabilities.
  • Knowledge of basic mathematics, including addition, subtraction, division, and multiplication.
  • Ability to organize policies and procedures and ensure implementation.
  • Ability to multitask in a busy for-profit kitchen/cafe setting.
  • Creative and motivated.
  • Organized and capable of pro 0per delegation.
  • Ability to adapt to changes (i.e. food substitutions and numbers served).
  • Demonstrate ethical business practices, in conformance with all state and federal laws and regulations.
  • Possess excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to multi-task and prioritize duties.
  • Willingness to foster agency, department and program wide cooperation and team work through use of positive/constructive communication techniques.
  • Ability to maintain absolute confidentiality in regard to all records reviewed including consumer records, employee records and billing records.
  • Ability to work in the following software programs: Windows, Microsoft Office, and multiple online software platforms as required by funders and partner organizations
  • Ability to analyze and interpret data and to handle problem resolution.
  • Possession of a valid NYS Driver’s license and a driver's record considered acceptable by agency and insurance carrier.
  • Continuous use of a reliable, registered and insured vehicle.

  • Use hands to manipulate, handle, feel, and control items or equipment, including motor vehicle.
  • Stand, sit, walk, bend, stoop, kneel, and reach.
  • Climb up or down stairs.
  • Able to reach above or below shoulders.
  • Occasionally lift or move objects weighing up to 50 lbs.
  • Sitting at a desk or in a vehicle for long periods of time to perform certain job functions.
  • Be able to read, write, and interpret written documents.
  • Adheres to all applicable federal and state laws and regulations including, but not limited to, those governing confidentiality, privacy, program, billing, and documentation standards.

Responsibilities

  • Assist individuals in achieving personal goals and developing life skills.
  • Implement and evaluate service plans based on individual preferences and needs.
  • Teach and reinforce techniques for independence and positive interpersonal relationships.
  • Provide safe transportation using a reliable vehicle.
  • Manage and supervise food truck operations in compliance with Department of Health regulations.
  • Develop menus, order supplies, and maintain inventory.
  • Ensure proper food preparation and maintain records of meal production.
  • Oversee or directly prepare, cook, and package food using safe handling techniques.
  • Maintain cleanliness and safety standards in all food prep areas.
  • Train individuals with disabilities in culinary skills, customer service, and related tasks.
  • Promote community integration through food service activities.
  • Foster positive relationships with individuals, families, and community partners.
  • Maintain accurate documentation in eVero and other required systems.
  • Attend all required OPWDD and agency trainings, staff meetings, and events.
  • Ensure compliance with all federal, state, and agency regulations.
  • Complete other duties as assigned.
  • Supports the Development Assistant with advertising for meals occurring four times per week.
  • Order and prepare meals.
  • Set up and tear down area of community meals.
  • Recruit volunteers to help with meals.
  • Keep track of number of people who attend and place in data base.
