About The Position

BAMSI has been “bringing people and services together” since 1975. Our Clubhouse program supports adults living with serious and persistent mental illness by providing meaningful opportunities for skill‑building, community engagement, employment‑related activities, and social connection. We believe in a person‑centered, recovery‑oriented approach that values lived experience and member choice. As a Community Specialist, you will support Clubhouse members through structured activities, skill development, and individualized engagement using a person‑centered approach.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED required; Bachelor’s degree preferred
  • Experience working with individuals with serious and persistent mental illness and/or co‑occurring substance use disorders preferred
  • Experience facilitating groups preferred
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to build positive relationships with members, families, service providers, and case managers
  • Excellent computer skills, including Microsoft applications, online platforms, Zoom, and social media
  • Ability to maintain accurate documentation and enter data into EHR systems
  • Ability to stand or sit for extended periods
  • Ability to lift and move up to 30 lbs
  • Ability to ascend/descend stairs while carrying supplies
  • Manual dexterity and visual acuity for computer and office equipment use
  • Must be able to drive up to 2 hours per day
  • Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation

  • Bilingual abilities (Spanish, Portuguese, Cape Verdean Creole, Haitian Creole, ASL) a plus

Responsibilities

  • Organize and facilitate Clubhouse Services and Work Ordered Day group and individual activities
  • Promote and support members’ personal goals and individual Action Plans
  • Provide one‑to‑one support on‑site, off‑site, and through telephonic or remote outreach
  • Encourage participation in Clubhouse services, activities, and community linkages
  • Conduct group trainings that support Work Ordered Day and Clubhouse programming
  • Serve as a positive role model by demonstrating strong work habits (attendance, punctuality, teamwork)
  • Enter member‑level data into the electronic health record system as required
  • Provide reach‑out services (in‑person, phone, virtual) to support ongoing engagement
  • Participate in Action Plan development and meetings using a person‑centered approach
  • Attend scheduled meetings, staff meetings, trainings, and seminars as required
  • Ensure member safety and compliance with program coverage standards
  • Act as a member advocate and role model
  • Intervene in crisis situations and follow emergency procedures as needed
  • Maintain a clean, safe, and supportive work environment
  • Follow all program and agency policies, procedures, and safety standards
  • Perform other related duties as assigned
