About The Position

The Community Service Officer (CSO) serves as a non-sworn, unarmed Public Safety Officer, providing assistance in maintaining a safe and secure campus environment. The CSO will work closely with law enforcement, campus staff, students, faculty and community members. This role helps to enhance community relations.

Requirements

  • Possess a High School Diploma or equivalent
  • Must be able to pass a background check for JNET clearance, following hire based on criminal background review.
  • Must possess or be able to obtain a valid Pennsylvania drivers license within 45 days of hire date.
  • Possess a Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification or be able to obtain it within 45 days of hire date.

Nice To Haves

  • Vocational or Technical Training or Degree
  • One (1) or more years of work experience working in a higher education setting
  • Prior experience working in customer service

Responsibilities

  • Performs routine patrols of campus grounds, facilities, building, and public areas.
  • Monitors for suspicious activities, safety hazards, security incidents or other risks.
  • Serves community members, students, and visitors.
  • Provides directions, escorting services, and general safety information.
  • Responds to emergency and non-emergency incidents.
  • Addresses noise complaints, minor accidents, lockouts, vehicle jumpstarts, parking complaints, alarms, mental health complaints, and property damage or theft.
  • Ensures proper documentation is reported accurately and timely.
  • Assists during large events.
  • Provides security and crowd control.
  • Directs traffic and pedestrians as needed.
  • Works with event organizers and other staff to ensure proper safety protocols are in place.
  • Maintains current knowledge of all public safety protocols, procedures, and best practices.
  • Completes regular required training.
