About the position

Aspiring to be a police officer? Then join the MGPD as our new Community Service Officer/ Detention Monitor! As a Community Service Officer/Detention Monitor, you will gain first-hand experience working in a police department by helping the community of Maple Grove and its residents. In this role, you will help monitor animal control, assist the community in various tasks, and monitor the police detention facility. This position is a great opportunity for individuals looking to join the law enforcement field. During your time as a CSO, you will get valuable training and experience, which will help develop the skills required of a police officer. Responsibilities

  • Patrols assigned areas by vehicle or foot, locates and captures stray animals, and responds to animal welfare complaints, issuing warnings or citations as needed.
  • Enforces parking, zoning ordinances, and investigates violations such as illegal dumping and parking issues.
  • Provides support during emergency situations, including first aid, assisting officers, traffic management, and responding to motor vehicle crashes.
  • Conducts administrative duties such as mail runs, city deposits, delivering city council packets, fingerprinting, and public tours.
  • Monitors detention facilities, performs prisoner checks, maintains inventory, and assists with prisoner bookings and contraband inspections.
  • Participates in community outreach programs like youth safety events, bike safety, and public engagement initiatives.
  • Assists with administrative tasks including kennel license follow-ups, medical supply stocking, front desk coverage, and supervising external contractors.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Possession of, or ability to obtain an appropriate, valid Minnesota driver's license.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain emergency medical responder- 6 months of hire.

Nice-to-haves

  • Currently enrolled, enrolling, or recent graduate of a law enforcement education program.
  • Experience working with animals.
  • Experience working in law enforcement.
  • Experience in customer service.

Benefits

  • Part-time hours (minimum of 20 hours per week, max of 29).
  • Shifts rotate all week, including days, evenings, overnights, weekends, and holidays.
  • Hiring Rate: $25.995
