About The Position

Performs a wide variety of entry-level limited-commissioned duties within the Police Department. Under general supervision and at the direction of the Chief of Police or designee(s). The Olympia Police Department’s Community Service Officer (CSO) program is comprised of non-commissioned and limited-commissioned personnel performing a wide variety of duties within the police department. This program is a support function in collaboration between local peace officers, the municipal court, contract jail facilities, and the community. CSOs will respond to non-criminal calls for service as well as provide education, public safety, transportation, and outreach services that do not require the full authority of a peace officer. The Olympia Police Department is an actively engaged full-service law enforcement agency providing a wide range of law enforcement and social services to the community of Olympia. The CSO I classification is an un-armed position. Application Details: 1. Requirements

Must be eighteen (18) years of age or older.
Must be a high school graduate or possess a GED
Valid Washington State driver’s license may be required.
Successful completion of a criminal background investigation, traffic background investigation.
Successful completion of psychological testing and polygraph examination.
Successful completion of drug and alcohol screening.
Successful completion of a 6-month probationary period for continued employment
Ability to successfully complete the following Physical Ability Standards exam: a. Pushup Test - 90 seconds to complete a minimum of 15 pushups to pass - Followed by a three-minute rest period b. Sit Up Test - 90 seconds to complete a minimum of 12 sit ups to pass - Followed by a five-minute rest period c. Squat Thrust Test - 3 minutes to complete a minimum of 25 squat thrusts to pass

Responsibilities

Transports inmates to correctional facilities, court appearances, psychological and/or court-ordered activities, medical appointments and other destinations.
Applies physical force within policy when required, as necessary.
Maintains the care, custody and control of individuals being transported.
Drive a department vehicle to transport individuals that have been detained/arrested by department personnel.
Performs physical searches of individuals and transport vehicle for contraband and seizes such as evidence.
Transporting evidence items to and from department facilities while maintaining proper chain of custody.
May be required to exercise discretion and use independent judgement; often facing critical, potentially violent and complex situations.
Process individuals into Federal, State, County, Municipal and Tribal detention facilities to include completion of necessary documentation.
Transfer bail/bond funds and documentation from corrections facilities to courts.
Collection of DNA samples as required.
Ensure all fingerprints and identifying information is provided to courts.
Take individuals into custody and ordered by the court.
Assist during Olympia Municipal Court matters at corrections facilities.
Testify in court regarding job-relevant incidents.
Respond to traffic-related calls for service
Assist the Patrol Division with traffic control at special events and collision scenes.
Provide collision scene management as requested and per department policies and procedures.
Respond to calls for service related to lost and found property
Assist the Community Policing Division with traffic control, special events and other department-related activities.
Operate and maintain job-related equipment
Maintain and organize inventory of patrol vehicles
Provide administrative assistance to all department divisions/staff as requested
Assist stranded motorists
Prepare and completes detailed reports, forms, logs and other required documentations.
Fingerprint incarcerated individuals using electronic fingerprinting equipment
Enter and/or verify information into State-wide criminal database
Punctual, regular and reliable attendance is essential for successful job performance.
