About The Position

This position is part of The Center for Service Learning & Community Service. Under the auspices of the Career Center in the Division of Student Affairs, the Center is the campus’ hub for service and service learning projects, building long-term partnerships between community partners and the faculty, staff, and students. Reporting to an Assistant Director, this role is the first point of contact for students and student organizations seeking service opportunities, and serves as a liaison between community partners and student groups for the planning and implementation of service projects. Coordinating orientation and training of students in preparation for service and monitoring the experiences are key responsibilities for this role. This role will also maintain the database of service opportunities and placements and deploy evaluations and learning outcomes assessments for all projects and experiences. The Coordinator will play a key role in the promotion and recruitment of student organizations for service projects. Incumbent must be a positive, creative, resourceful, adaptable team player who possesses strong communication and interpersonal skills, is highly organized with exceptional attention to detail, and able to juggle multiple responsibilities in a fast-paced environment. Essential for this role is the adeptness to work independently as well as part of a team, a learning orientation, collaborative approach to problem solving and a student-centered philosophy.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree (foreign equivalent or higher).
  • Two (2) years of full-time work experience to include experience within college career services, academic advising, student affairs, recruitment or related field (part-time student experience may be prorated to meet the full-time experience requirement).

  • Experience with the design and delivery of F2F and virtual presentations and programs.
  • Experience advising, coaching, training and/or supervising college students.
  • Experience using back-end databases such as corporate applicant tracking systems, advising, or career services databases.
  • Experience with technology, i.e. Handshake, Blackboard, Microsoft Office, Google Drive, Qualtrics.

Responsibilities

  • Work with undergraduate and graduate students and student groups seeking service opportunities on/off campus.
  • Plan and deliver orientation and training sessions for student volunteers.
  • Monitor status of service projects and address any problems that arise.
  • Plan and implement service programs/events on/off campus.
  • Assist with all aspects of these programs, from recruitment and selection, to project management, assessment, and reporting.
  • Work directly with community partners to plan and implement service projects/events.
  • Assist with staff and faculty collaborations re: integrating service learning components into the curriculum and co-curriculum (eg. Center for Civic Justice, Interfaith Center.
  • Assist with measuring service learning and community service outcomes/impact.
  • Participate in opportunities that promote your learning, growth, and development (i.e. classes, training, committee, webinar, etc.).
  • Contribute to the Division of Student Affairs and Stony Brook University by attending and/or supporting events, activities, and programs sponsored by areas outside of your individual unit/department (i.e. campus wide traditions, events, programs, etc.).
  • Other duties or projects as assigned as appropriate to rank and departmental mission.
  • Evening and weekend work may be required at times.

Benefits

  • In addition to the employee's base salary, this position is eligible for $4,000 UUP annual location pay, paid biweekly.
