Department: Women, Infant, Children (WIC) Nutrition Program Schedule: Monday-Thursday, 8:00am-6:00pm Friday, 8:00am-12:00pm General Purpose of Job: The Community Service Assistant I supports the mission of Driscoll Children’s Hospital’s WIC Program by providing exceptional customer service, clerical support, and direct assistance with client intake and certification. Working under the direction of the WIC Director and supervision of the WIC Manager/Lead CSA, this role is essential in ensuring families receive timely, accurate, and compassionate care. Requirements

  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED) or Hospital approved equivalent.
  • At least 1 year of experience in a busy office setting, preferably in healthcare, nutrition, or a related service environment.
  • Computer/data entry proficiency (30 WPM typing minimum).

Responsibilities

  • Greet and assist clients, schedule appointments, verify eligibility (income, residency, category), and maintain client records.
  • Handle data entry, filing, EBT card processing, voter registration info, consent/release forms, and confidentiality compliance.
  • Provide discharge instructions and referrals according to policy.
  • Perform growth measurements (weight, height, head circumference) for infants, children, and adults.
  • Record and graph results accurately using approved tools (Accuplot/Precise Plot).
  • Collect blood samples (hemoglobin/hematocrit), following strict safety and infection control guidelines.
  • Document medical histories, identify risk factors, and prepare referrals to certifying staff or physicians.
  • Review immunization records and direct clients to appropriate providers as needed.
  • Complete audits of assigned charts and processes to ensure accuracy and compliance with state and hospital policies.
  • Maintain logs, equipment calibration, and proper documentation per Department of State Health Services (DSHS) guidelines.
  • Participate in departmental process improvement initiatives.
