These services are integrated into the school day, after school programs, and summer enrichment opportunities. Partnering with several NYC public schools, CSYD collaborates with the NYC Department of Youth & Community Development (DYCD), NYC Office of Community Schools (OCS), The Boys and Girls Clubs of America (BGCA), and local school communities to meet the needs of young people and their families in all circumstances. Our team of social workers ensures social-emotional learning is embedded in our work, providing individualized care and attention when needed We are seeking a full-time Community School Director to provide leadership at one of our community school sites.  As the Community School Director, you will oversee the operations of community schools and ensure the effective delivery of educational programs, promoting student development and growth and preparation for college and careers. A central component of the Community Schools approach is the integration and alignment of school- and community- based services throughout an expanded learning day (such as health, mental health, counseling and academic enrichment). Critical to ensuring this alignment and coordination is an Educational Alliance employee who serves as a full-time staff person in the school building. The Community Schools Director reports to the Executive Director, Community Schools & Youth Development

Requirements

  • Master's Degree required.
  • 3-5 years of experience in program management preferred, but all outstanding candidates will be considered
  • Strong program management skills and a sense of ownership over the programs that drive efficiency and excellence in all aspects of work.
  • Ability to work effectively with school aged youth, educators, families and communities from a wide range of cultural, social and economic backgrounds.
  • Excellent communication and relationship-building skills are essential.
  • Passion for driving innovation, disrupting the status quo, trying new approaches, and tackling problems from many angles to find creative solutions.
  • Proficient in all Microsoft Office applications.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as an advisor to the principal, providing leadership for coordinating the work of different partners within the school, and aligning the work of partners with the school faculty.
  • Serve as the 6th grade dean and adhere to those responsibilities daily
  • Work with school leadership to maintain a focus on results and track progress.
  • Organize Community School Team (CST) Meetings. Support the development of the school’s Community School Plan and/or community school components of school’s Renewal School Comprehensive Educational Plan (RSCEP), and oversee the plan’s implementation.
  • Develop strong relationships with parents, students, and teachers, and ensure that all stakeholders understand
  • Work with SLT, teachers and partner agencies to integrate expanded learning and enrichment activities before, during or after the school day.
  • Build relationships and mechanisms to effectively link the school day to expanded learning activities.
  • Work closely with cross-agency department to ensure that students, families, and members of the local communities are aware of the comprehensive services provided by Educational Alliance and facilitate access to those resources.
  • Assist Educational Alliance in serving as the lead ELT provider, while working with internal and external stakeholders to complement and/or augment the services provided by Educational Alliance, as necessary.
  • Serve as key member on school’s attendance team, including (but not limited to) using the New Visions data tools for tracking and coordinating student interventions. Assist with data collection and research and prepare relevant data to bring to meetings.
  • Organize and oversee assets and needs assessments and seek input from teachers, school staff, parents and students to determine ongoing needs of students and families. Identify high need students, coordinate with teachers to target interventions, and track and monitor impact of interventions.
  • Support the maintenance of all contract data systems (i.e. Data Sorter, Youth Services etc.) that are required for programming (including reporting requirements, agency policy compliance, and operational needs.
  • Collaborate with Principal. SLT and Parent Coordinators of both schools to ensure that families have meaningful opportunities to participate in the school and to ensure full implementation of a transformative family and parent engagement initiative aligned with CS strategy
  • Support special events that promote family engagement
  • Serve as a point person for coordinating vision screenings, mental health services and physical health services in conjunction with the Office of Community Schools.
  • Identify local community resources and broker new partnerships that are aligned with Educational Alliance and school goals and needs.
  • Develop memoranda of understanding and subcontract agreements with subcontractors as necessary.
  • Participate in meetings, conferences, trainings to advance the goals of the Community Schools.
  • Additional duties may be assigned by the Executive Director
