About The Position

The Community Safety Education Coordinator works with the Community Engagement and Information team at the Ada County Sheriff's Office to enhance community participation in safety and crime prevention efforts. This role involves outreach to community members, schools, organizations, and businesses, and includes coordinating educational presentations and campaigns to promote crime prevention and public awareness.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent required; undergraduate degree or experience in communications, marketing, or related public relations fields preferred.
  • Knowledge of effective community outreach practices.
  • Skills in creative desktop publishing, production, and editing.
  • Knowledge of video and photo production skills is a plus.
  • Event planning experience is a plus.
  • Knowledge of online accessibility is a plus.
  • Experience with WordPress is a plus.
  • Skill in conducting informational briefings and presentations to community and governmental groups.
  • Problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to connect with and engage diverse groups of staff, community members, and organizations.
  • Proficiency in using social media tools including Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, YouTube, and basic HTML.
  • Ability to create engaging content for diverse audiences.
  • Ability to plan, coordinate, and execute multiple projects and events with competing deadlines.
  • Effective verbal and written presentation skills.
  • Ability to promote community policing services.
  • Interpersonal and communication skills to maintain effective working relationships.

Nice To Haves

  • Knowledge of event planning experience is a plus.

  • Knowledge or experience with WordPress is a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinates presentations and displays to include crime prevention and safety discussions at community meetings and events.
  • Develops, promotes, coordinates, and presents crime prevention and public awareness campaigns, activities, and educational materials.
  • Maintains a working relationship with community members and groups to keep Sheriff's Office staff informed of meetings, concerns, trends, and areas of public interest.
  • Manages and facilitates the Neighborhood Watch program.
  • Researches and develops new data-informed crime prevention programs to improve or increase community outreach.
  • Prepares literature and visual aids for crime prevention events, programs, and presentations.
  • Writes materials for diverse audiences and proofreads content developed by others.
  • Manages the ACSO's Nextdoor presence and prepares internal ACSO newsletters.
