About The Position

Under general supervision, the Community Risk Reduction (CRR) Specialist develops, delivers, and evaluates fire and life safety education and risk reduction programs. Engages with community members, organizations, and schools to reduce risks of fire, injury, illness, and other hazards.

Requirements

  • Ability to communicate effectively with diverse audiences, including children, seniors, and at-risk populations.
  • Ability to develop, deliver, and evaluate community risk reduction programs.
  • Knowledge of fire and life safety principles.
  • Knowledge of public education practices.
  • Knowledge of risk reduction strategies.
  • Knowledge of community engagement and outreach methods.
  • Skill in public speaking, teaching, and presentation delivery.
  • Valid driver’s license and ability to maintain an acceptable motor vehicle record.
  • Have and maintain acceptable background information, including criminal conviction history.
  • Associate’s degree in a related field.
  • Four (4) years of related experience may substitute for the education requirement.
  • Two (2) years of experience in fire prevention, community risk reduction, public education, or related field.
  • Ability to obtain Fire and Life Safety Educator certification as required by the department within 18 months.

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Education, Communications, Public Administration, Fire Science, or related field.
  • Certification as Fire and Life Safety Educator I or II.
  • Experience in fire prevention, community risk reduction, or public education programs.
  • Experience working with at-risk or diverse populations.

Responsibilities

  • Plans, coordinates, and delivers community risk reduction and fire/life safety education programs.
  • Conducts risk assessments and develops programs targeted at identified community risks.
  • Delivers presentations, training, and outreach to schools, businesses, and community groups.
  • Participates in wildfire preparedness, home assessment, and community resilience programs.
  • Develops educational materials, curriculum, and presentations for diverse audiences.
  • Collects and analyzes program data to measure effectiveness and outcomes.
  • Works collaboratively with other city departments, community groups, and partner agencies.
  • Participates in fire prevention inspections, code enforcement support, and community safety events.
  • Maintains records, reports, and documentation of program activities and accomplishments.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned to meet the needs of the department.
