The Community Relations Coordinator for the City of Gainesville is a professional and administrative role focused on enhancing community relations through project oversight, public relations, and programming. This position plays a vital role in building and improving community engagement, working closely with various stakeholders to implement strategies that align with the city's goals. The coordinator will also support fundraising initiatives and serve as a liaison between city departments and community organizations.

  • Oversee projects assigned by the department head to enhance community relations.
  • Implement and monitor long and short-range strategies aligned with the City of Gainesville's strategic planning.
  • Provide information about the availability of city services to improve organizational relationships with the community.
  • Develop and coordinate communication methods to provide positive information about the City as an employer and service provider.
  • Serve as a liaison between City departments and community groups for public education and informational programs.
  • Lead department fundraising initiatives such as the 'Brighter Tomorrow Scholarship Banquet' and 'Project SHARE.'
  • Identify issues specific to district geographical areas to enhance neighbor relations engagement.
  • Maintain metrics to monitor and analyze the City's progress in community relations initiatives.
  • Develop and distribute reports and metrics related to community relations initiatives.
  • Respond under emergency conditions to address community issues and disseminate information.
  • Graduation from an accredited four-year college or university in communications, community or public relations, business or related field.
  • Three years of experience supporting governmental or non-profit community building initiatives.
  • Valid Florida Driver License required.
  • Strong writing and public speaking skills.
  • Knowledge of community institutions and neighborhood organizations.
  • Experience with grant funding and fundraising campaigns.
  • Knowledge of project management steps and practices.
  • Knowledge of municipal and governmental administration/operations.
