About the position

The Community Relations Coordinator will play an instrumental role in GPO Federal Credit Union’s success as an important cog in the marketing wheel and brand. The community relations coordinator will be concentrated on maximizing effective programs and events to coordinate relationships and communicate to both GPO’s online and face-to-face communities in the realms of sponsorships, events and community involvement. This ideal candidate thrives on public speaking, motivating others, selling an idea or concept and teaching others about the benefits GPO has to offer.

Responsibilities

  • Leverages internal resources to create and coordinate a community affairs plan that aligns with GPO's strategic initiatives to strengthen GPO's brand awareness throughout our market including charitable contributions, program and event sponsorships, and staff community involvement.
  • Identifies not-for-profit, local organizations that could benefit from both monetary and volunteer contributions and ensures the organizations meet the criteria for GPO’s Giving-Back Program guidelines.
  • Makes budgetary recommendations for all public relations programs, including branch donations, charitable contributions, sponsorships, special events and legislative affairs.
  • Coordinates all public relations activity including the creation and distribution of press releases, development and placement of stories to improve GPO's brand and market share, maintenance of strong relationships with members of the press, and consistent execution of GPO's brand image and value proposition.
  • Assists VP of Marketing to incorporate community relations strategies and plans into the overall annual corporate marketing plan.
  • Writes and/or reviews all corporate communication pieces that go to members or internal and external stakeholders, including the crafting and/or editing of letters on behalf of key executives.
  • Coordinates and maintains all online communities such as social media, blog and eblasts by monitoring, posting, and content development with timely and relevant messages that support member and employee communications, community relations, membership and marketing.
  • Tracks, identifies and analyzes trends to remain up to date on social media marketing trends and applies knowledge to leverage social media activities effectively.
  • Establishes and reports metrics on online community efforts and success rates.
  • Participates in online and offline conversations that surround our content and reputation, answers comments and serves as a mediator.
  • Coordinates and implements social media marketing communication projects and social media advertising.
  • Participates in all required and recommended training including Bank Secrecy Act training (BSA) and demonstrates attained knowledge.
  • Adheres to all Credit Union policies, procedures, and regulatory agency requirements including training activities.
  • Creates a monthly shared calendar and provides a month-end report on results of efforts to be shared with senior management.
  • Performs other marketing duties as assigned to contribute to the marketing team.

Requirements

  • Determined and motivated individual with a positive attitude.
  • Ability to work in a team setting as well as take on projects as an individual.
  • Must possess a four-year degree in public relations or marketing OR a two-year degree with two years of experience in public and/or community relations.
  • Must be an excellent verbal and written communicator.
  • Must be a self-starter and have proven examples of public or community relations-type of work.
  • Must have an understanding of the credit union philosophy; products and services; and operations.
  • Must be detail-oriented.
  • Must be willing to play an active leadership role in the credit union as well as in the community.
  • Excellent verbal, written, presentation, and public speaking skills required.
  • Ability to independently create content for required projects.
  • Strong organizational and leadership skills required.
  • Excellent knowledge of GPO products and services.
  • Ability to successfully integrate factors of community needs with organizational goals and GPO’s giving back program.
  • Ability to work effectively with media, community leaders, legislative entities, senior staff of the Credit Union and members of the Board of Directors.
  • Ability to meet tight deadlines.
  • Ability to maintain superior quality service and produce accurate work.
  • Excellent typing/PC skills required.
