The Community Recreation Manager - Adaptive Services is responsible for the administrative, managerial, and hands-on development, supervision, and evaluation of community recreation programs, including day camps and adaptive/special needs services. This role involves promoting a positive work environment, ensuring participant satisfaction, and collaborating with various community partners to enhance program delivery.

  • Act as a team member with the Recreation Team, supporting the vision and mission of the Department.
  • Promote a positive work environment through supervision and evaluation of staff and volunteers.
  • Conduct surveys of program participants to ensure satisfaction.
  • Oversee all aspects of Department Day Camps, including school break and summer camps.
  • Develop and oversee adaptive, inclusive, and special needs programming, including Special Olympics and adaptive recreation programs.
  • Prepare schedules of events and activities, develop policies, and recommend fees for programs.
  • Search for new programming and activities to keep offerings fresh and up to date.
  • Establish an annual budget for recreational activities.
  • Develop a marketing plan with the Marketing Manager to promote offerings.
  • Prepare, hire, and direct seasonal and part-time staff and volunteers.
  • Serve as a representative on various committees and liaise with internal and external partners.
  • Identify grants, sponsorships, and fundraising opportunities to support community programs.
  • Maintain records and prepare reports for the Assistant Director, Executive Director, and Park & Recreation Board.
  • Provide excellent internal and external customer service.
  • Bachelor of Science degree in Recreation and Park Administration, Therapeutic Recreation, or a related field.
  • Experience in Recreation and Park Administration.
  • Clear understanding of marketing, budgeting, public relations, and branding.
  • Proficiency in computer technology, including Microsoft Office and financial software.
  • Ability to plan, organize, and direct the work of subordinate staff.
  • Ability to conduct research and prepare written summaries and recommendations.
  • Ability to work independently with general instructions.
  • Certified Park and Recreation Professional (CPRP) certification.
