This position is in the Office of Planning (OP) on the Citywide Planning Team. OP has the lead responsibility for land use planning in the District of Columbia and provides the vision, framework and principles that guide land use change, growth, and development for an equitable and vibrant city. OP undertakes citywide and neighborhood planning and engagement; urban design and development review; historic preservation; mapping and data analysis; and serves as the official Census State Data Center. OP is the steward of the District's Comprehensive Plan, which advances housing, economic recovery, racial equity, resilience, and coordination of public resources and civic infrastructure. The position is in the Planning & Data Visualization Division (PDV). PDV undertakes cross-sector research, data and spatial analysis in order to develop policies and plans that advance the agency's mission and priorities. The Division includes Citywide Planning; Neighborhood Planning; the State Data Center; and Geographic Information Systems. The Division leads various citywide initiatives including the Comprehensive Plan, manages area plans and engagement practices, and conducts data visualization. PDV also provides data and technical expertise to partner agencies and supports District initiatives such as the Capital Improvement Plan. The Division assists with the Agency's urban design and development review functions. The incumbent serves in an inter-disciplinary and collaborative role as a senior-level urban planner focused on housing and economic development within PDV's Citywide Planning unit. PDV analyzes data and formulates recommendations for various planning systems including housing, economic development, capital facilities, resilience, infrastructure, and sustainability. The Community Planner is expected to help advance Agency goals that fulfill the Comprehensive Plan's vision of an equitable, inclusive, and resilient city.
