About The Position

Organization's Summary Statement: The Judge Alexander Williams Jr. Center for Education, Justice, and Ethics(JAWC) at the University of Maryland, College Park provides educational and professional opportunities for individuals who possess the will, passion, dedication, and capacity to transform systems of inequality, and create new narratives of empowerment through social impact. JAWC seeks a candidate who has a passion for people, has lived experiences, a deep commitment to the community, strong collaboration skills, is resourceful and enjoys community outreach and connecting people to resources and opportunities that can enhance their lives. The incumbent will receive program participants visiting the JAWC offices at The Justice Thurgood Marshall Amenity Center (PS-103) in West Baltimore and connecting them with the appropriate JAWC services. Additionally, will also help provide basic community outreach services in the field. Physical Demands: Required to use their personal automobile while conducting official business and possess a valid Maryland Driver’s License. May require long periods of sitting, standing, or walking. Engaging with the public and surrounding community. Ability to visit client homes, outreach centers, PS103, and may attend meetings on the College Park campus.

Requirements

  • EDUCATION: High-school diploma or GED.
  • EXPERIENCE: Two years in community outreach, health care, research, and/or social services.
  • General knowledge of community and/or social service resources and programs.
  • Skill in conducting interviews and assessing client needs.
  • Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships.
  • Ability to operate computers and other office equipment.
  • Ability to write reports and maintain records.
  • Ability to work in extreme weather conditions.
  • Ability to perform extensive standing and walking.
  • Ability to handle sensitive and confidential matters with discretion and tact.
  • Ability to interact with the public, health care providers, community organizations, and social service agencies.
  • Ability to maintain poise and courtesy under pressure.
  • Employees in this job class may be required to use their personal automobile while conducting official business and possess a valid Maryland Non-commercial Class C or Commercial Class B Driver's License (CDL).
  • Candidates selected for employment may be subjected to medical inquiries and/or medical examination to determine ability to perform the job.
  • Employees in this job class may be required to successfully pass a police background check.
