About The Position

The University of Nevada, Reno is inviting applications for a Community Outreach Specialist. This position supports the project team to develop and implement community projects undertaken by the School of Public Health. The position reports to the Project Coordinator and/or the Principal Investigator. The specialist is primarily responsible for conducting community outreach to provided 1-on-1 overdose prevention education discussions to individuals who use opioids and well as provide overdose prevention supplies and materials to individuals and entities in the community. Additional duties include: supply maintenance and management, building and maintaining community relations, and making community referrals.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma and three years of related work experience; OR Associate's degree and two years of related work experience; OR Bachelor’s degree and one year of related work experience; OR Master’s degree
  • Related Experience: Previous work experience as an outreach worker or a related field or lived experience with substance use disorder and/or homelessness
  • Driver's license
  • Variable work schedule to include some nights and weekends
  • Frequent travel within Reno/Sparks community
  • Up to 50% of the work will be walking and standing while conducting outreach.
  • Outreach may at times be conducted in inclement weather (heat and cold).
