About The Position

Under general supervision, the Community Organizer implements field strategies to achieve ACCESS advocacy, civic engagement, and other campaign goals. Identifies and recruits strategic partners, as well as individuals to be engaged with us and advocate for assigned issue areas.

Requirements

  • Knowledge of: Intermediate concepts, principles and practices of community organizing, advocacy and civic engagement
  • Skill in: Operating standard office equipment and using required software applications for program area and other applications, including Microsoft Office
  • Community Outreach / Activism
  • Ability to: Incite enthusiasm and influence, motivate, and persuade others to achieve desired outcomes
  • Organize, manage, and track multiple detailed tasks and assignments
  • Communicate effectively, both orally and in writing
  • Work independently as well as collaboratively within a team environment
  • Handle stressful situations and provide a high level of customer service in a calm and professional manner
  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships
  • Minimum Degree Required: Associate degree or 60 semester credits of study (or 90 quarter credits) in a related field
  • Required Disciplines: Political Science, Public Policy, Communications, or related field
  • At least one year of field organizing and advocacy experience required or any equivalent combination of experience, education and/or training approved by Human Resources
  • Minimum Degree Required: High School Diploma or GED
  • At least five years of field organizing, and advocacy experience required

Nice To Haves

  • Arab/Middle Eastern issues, culture and languages is preferred
  • Speak and/or write in Arabic is preferred

Responsibilities

  • Work with team members to develop and execute field strategies to achieve established advocacy and civic engagement goals
  • Identify and recruit new supporters of ACCESS advocacy and community engagement initiatives
  • Conduct outreach to raise the visibility of assigned advocacy initiatives and organization priorities through community events, tabling and building earned media events
  • Develop and maintain growing database of engaged people
  • Build and develop relationships with strategic partners including individuals and community organizations to accomplish advocacy and civic engagement objectives
  • Meet all reporting requirements based on assigned functional area
  • Interpret/translate information for program participants as needed based on assigned functional area
  • Maintain clip files, photo archives and other publication archives
  • Gather and identify messaging, design, and content for print and electronic communications
  • May research, write and edit communication pieces designed to promote and enhance the program including writing press releases, news briefs, e-newsletters, e-mail, program website and other materials
  • Operate standard office equipment and use required software applications
  • Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned
