About The Position

The Community Organizer oversees street outreach activities, including arrangement, coordination, monitoring, and door-to-door activities. Essential Job Functions include those listed below.

Requirements

  • Relevant certification(s) and/or licensure preferred; Preference will be given certified candidates;
  • Valid drivers license and the ability to obtain and maintain WestCares vehicle insurance is required.
  • High School Diploma or equivalent is required.
  • Two (2) years of experience working with disadvantaged, at risk, and/or disabled youth;
  • Ability to use office equipment, such as printers, scanners, phones, and fax machines required;
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, and Office required;
  • Ability to analyze situations accurately and develop appropriate responses or techniques required;
  • Ability to communicate effectively in order to relay information to others is required;
  • Professional appearance and demeanor required;
  • Ability to relate well with a diversity of ages and cultural backgrounds;
  • Must be culturally/linguistically sensitive to populations served.

Nice To Haves

  • Graduation from an accredited four-year college with a degree in Counseling, Criminal Justice, Social Work, Psychology or other field related to the position is preferred
  • Fluency in Spanish and the ability to speak and interpret Ebonics is preferred;
  • Experience in working with high-risk youth and their families preferred;
  • Knowledge of the principles, procedures, techniques, trends, and literature related to prevention and substance abuse preferred;

Responsibilities

  • Oversees the day-to-day community organizing, networking, and resident mobilization activities within designated neighborhood(s);
  • Develops and implements grassroots organizing tactics and coalition building;
  • Works collaboratively to establish a positive working relationship with law enforcement, Local and State elected officials, Faith-based organizations, community agencies, etc.;
  • Collects resources to provide planning, problem solving, and assessment services relating to crime, violence, and drug prevention efforts designated neighborhoods.
  • Organizes and implements community clean-ups during the Spring and Fall seasons;
  • Make presentations and represents WestCare Wisconsin at relevant community forums, block watch meetings, media events and collaborative community-based projects;
  • Works to ensure that WestCare Wisconsin services are known, understood, and accessible;
  • Works with residents to identify and document complaints of illegal activity, including drug, gang, and gun activity from residents, law enforcement, or other sources;
  • Communicates with residents to identify and report illegal drug sale areas;
  • Ensures accurate and timely reporting and data entry of activities for assigned sectors;
  • Develop strategic neighborhood outreach plans and approaches;
  • Implements innovative ways to provide information and recruit residents for block watches and other initiatives;
  • Embraces and embodies the mission, vision, guiding principles, clinical vision and goals of WestCare Foundation;
  • Performs any other duties as assigned.
