About The Position

The Community Nutrition Assistant I position at the University of Rhode Island involves assisting with community nutrition assessments, recruiting program participants, and teaching nutrition and food safety education. Requirements

• High school diploma or GED required; associate's degree in nutrition, education, health sciences, or related field preferred.
• Experience in community health programming with culturally diverse families of limited income.
• Good oral communication skills; fluency in English required, fluency in a second language desired.
• Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with adults and youth.
• Capacity to learn the basics of nutrition and ability to teach adults and youth in small group settings.
• Computer literacy.

Responsibilities

• Assist with the assessment of community nutrition needs.
• Recruit program participants and volunteers.
• Teach a pre-designed nutrition and food safety education curriculum.
• Evaluate knowledge and behavior change in income-eligible adults and youth.
• Maintain up-to-date records, both computer-generated and hard copy.
• Refer program participants to appropriate social service agencies as needed.
• Participate in continuing education, including peer teaching.
• Assist in planning single and multi-unit programming for participants.
