About The Position

Under general supervision, the Community Navigator provides resources and referrals to assist families experiencing homelessness, within the community college system, and/or from other at-risk populations. The Community Navigator supports families in obtaining access to and navigating childcare services to connecting them with child care resources. The Community Navigator will also provide comprehensive childcare intake services at Family Resource Centers (FRCs), Permanent Supportive Housing units, Homeless Shelters, community colleges, and other community agencies for CalWORKs participants and those categorically eligible through other public assistance programs. The Community Navigator ensures that parents are given appropriate information regarding choosing childcare, referrals to providers, and various family well-being services and resources.

Requirements

  • Associate’s Degree in the field of Psychology, Sociology, Child Development, Social Work, Human Services, and Family Studies or related field (as approved) or High School Diploma/ GED and 2 years equivalent related work experience.
  • Minimum of 2 years’ experience supporting or engaging with individuals experiencing homelessness and/or clients with mental illness, chronic health issues, and substance use conditions.
  • 1 year proven experience in delivering presentations, facilitating discussions, engaging participants, and fostering productive relationships with customers, partners, or community agencies.
  • TB clearance required due to working with at-risk population (see in background area below)
  • This position requires 20% travel. Will consist of travel to and from agency locations, Family Resource Centers (FRCs), Permanent Supportive Housing units, Homeless Shelters, community colleges, and other community agencies.
  • Staff members driving on behalf of CCRC may choose to drive a CCRC vehicle or own vehicle and must meet requirements to be an approved driver including holding and maintaining current auto insurance, current California Driver’s License and DMV clearance required.
  • Full time, typically M-F, ability to at times work a non-traditional work schedule including early mornings, late evenings, and weekends.
  • Field-based. Mixture of working in an office work environment and working directly with the community.
  • Background check required.
  • As a grant-funded Agency supporting Children and Family Services, CCRC conducts background checks commensurate with the role to verify candidate qualifications (criminal history, employment history / experience, education, reference checks) and ensure grant compliance.

Responsibilities

  • Provide enhanced referrals for Stage I by connecting with and traveling to designated community agencies and/ or sites. (20%)
  • Make referrals to Head Start and other available services, as appropriate.
  • Navigate families to child care and other resources available (i.e. developmental screenings, parenting classes, workforce development.)
  • Verify participant eligibility in county CalSAWs system.
  • Enter data for Stage I participants.
  • Complete intake documents for participants requesting referrals and childcare services.
  • Assemble and forward participant documents daily to CCRC.
  • Review and complete assigned contract compliance components.
  • Assist families with identifying federal or state subsidized quality licensed childcare settings and/or programs.
  • Support families in selecting a "best fit" provider. (15%)
  • Conduct one-on-one and group presentations to the community regarding child care (i.e., program overview, parental choice and education, types of childcares, and eligibility issues). (15%)
