About The Position

The Thrive Center for Children, Families, and Communities is dedicated to supporting the healthy development of children, individuals with disabilities, families, and communities through service, partnership, and scholarship. Thrive Center is home to a multi-disciplinary faculty and staff of over 100 individuals working locally, nationally, and internationally. Thrive Center has recently been awarded a grant to be part of a broader team working on the 2-Gen Cash Transfer Demonstration project – an innovative, community-focused project aimed at supporting families in Washington, DC. The Community Mental Health Worker (CMHW) is responsible for helping participants and their families navigate and access community services and other resources, as well as adopt healthy behaviors. The CMHW supports providers and the Case Managers through an integrated approach to care management and community outreach. As a priority, activities will promote, maintain, and improve the health of participants and their families. CMHW provides social support and informal counseling, advocates for individuals and community health needs, and provides services such as basic mental health screenings and brief supportive counseling.

Requirements

  • Completed a specialized certificate program in Family Leadership at GU
  • Basic computer skills required (Microsoft Suite, data entry)
  • Written and oral fluency in English and Spanish is preferred
  • Experience working in a multicultural setting is preferred
  • Experience working in a community-based setting for at least 1 to 2 years is preferred
  • Understand the community served and community connectedness
  • Good communication skills, such as listening well and using language appropriately
  • Ability and willingness to provide emotional support, encouragement, and motivation to clients
