About The Position

Community Medicine, UVA - Northridge is seeking a BE/BC Family Medicine or Internal Medicine MD or DO to join our team. The position involves providing physician services, including assessing and managing patients in the clinic within the scope of licensing, training, and credentialing depending on specialty. The clinic offers high-quality care to adults (aged 16+) including preventive care, sick visits, and treatment for mild injuries. Community Medicine, UVA LLC is affiliated with UVA Health, which is widely recognized for its quality of care and was rated the #1 Hospital in Virginia by Newsweek in 2024. The position includes a faculty appointment and providing training to residents, with a well-balanced staff to provider ratio and parking onsite.

Requirements

  • Graduate of an accredited medical school with a degree of Doctor of Medicine (MD) or Doctor of Osteopathy (DO).
  • Completion of accredited residency in chosen specialty.
  • Board certification in specialty (if newly graduated from residency, must be obtained within 2 years of graduation).
  • Unrestricted license to practice within the Commonwealth of Virginia.
  • Current DEA certificate without restriction.

Responsibilities

  • Works in conjunction with the medical director, administrative management, office manager, and nursing staff to facilitate patient management through the health care system.
  • Exercises independent judgment in the assessment, diagnosing, and initiation of medical processes or procedures commensurate with training and experience.
  • Performs and legibly documents comprehensive health histories and physical assessments on assigned patients.
  • Formulates diagnoses and identifies problems and health risk profiles of selected patients.
  • Performs, orders, and interprets diagnostic studies, such as x-rays and laboratory tests.
  • Orders medications, treatment, and therapies in accordance with Virginia Prescriptive regulations.
  • Requests consultation and initiates referrals to other physicians when needed.
  • Evaluates and analyzes patient responses to the disease process or therapeutic interventions.
  • Provides information and support to patients and families regarding disease processes and treatment plans.
  • Participates in on-call responsibilities either in practice or inpatient environment.
  • Educates patients and families regarding planned diagnostic procedures, medications, and treatments.
  • Manages patients in accordance with established UVA Health System policies and procedures.
  • Examines systems and processes in populations and recommends strategies for improvement.
  • Reports births, deaths, outbreaks of contagious diseases, and other critical information as required.
  • Meets quality standards as determined by the Medical Director and/or UVA Health System.
  • May serve on selected committees of nursing, medical, and administrative staff as needed.
  • Participates in the clinical experience of medical students, interns, residents, and graduate nurses.
  • Prepares and attends to all reports, claims, and correspondence necessary for professional services.
  • Promotes the professional practice of the group.
  • Performs other duties as assigned that are commensurate with professional service normally provided by a physician.
