About The Position

Interested in strengthening relationships between law enforcement and the community while helping youth and families thrive in a diverse township of more than 85,000 residents? Upper Darby Township is seeking a compassionate and community-driven Community Liaison Worker to serve as a key connector between residents and the Upper Darby Township Police Department. This position plays a vital role in building trust, identifying community needs, and linking individuals and families to critical resources that promote stability, safety, and long-term success. The Community Liaison Worker works directly with youth and families to establish personal goals, connect them with services, and support academic and personal progress. The role includes receiving and processing referrals, monitoring school attendance and grades, conducting community outreach and field visits, and collaborating closely with police officers, police administration, Township leadership, the Mayor, elected Council members, and local social service organizations. This position requires strong relationship-building skills, cultural competency, and the ability to navigate schools, healthcare systems, housing resources, and community-based programs.

Requirements

  • Minimum of a High School diploma or GED equivalent
  • At least one (1) year of experience in community outreach, social services, case management, youth programming, or a related field
  • Experience working directly with individuals or families in a support or advocacy role
  • Proven ability to engage effectively with multicultural and socially diverse communities
  • Familiarity with local community resources and systems of support
  • Successful completion of required police background checks, state child abuse clearance, and federal clearances is a condition of employment

Nice To Haves

  • Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Social Work, Human Services, Public Administration, Community Development, Sociology, or a related field
  • Two (2) or more years of relevant professional experience
  • Experience working with youth and families in underserved or at-risk communities
  • Bilingual or multilingual skills (particularly Spanish)
  • Experience planning and coordinating community events or programs
  • Experience maintaining confidential records or utilizing case management or database software
